So, I've heard that what really makes this copy special (besides the odd Ganon sprite) was the SRAM that was used to write the game on to was originally used for an English translated Mother Prototype, that was set to be mass produced; it's code, entombed deep with in the games files. Which would make sense as Zelda had a battery for saves.

I'm not sure how to access this, but I've heard when naming your character after you've beaten the game once, you start typing in references to the Mother game; like bat, Ninten ect. It will cause the game to glitch and the playable Mother prototype will boot. 

Probably nonsense and it's "just" the purple ganon version. (I say just loosely)  But it's so rare not many people have experimented with it!
