My roommate used to work for Sunsoft before they shut down and I've been helping him sell off some of his old games. I was going through his nes stuff with him and found what seems to be a batman test cartridge as well as gremlins 2 and a game called Dr. Chaos. I'm not to familiar with test cartridges and was hoping for some pointers on how to go about authenticating them and maybe some price points. I've attached photos for a visual reference. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe you mean prototypes? First step is open them up and check out the boards.

Also, I freaking love Sunsoft. Those are awesome (assuming they're legit)

Open them up and take pictures of the inside, although the Batman one looks legit from a quick glance (but can't be sure until we open it up). Thankfully, they're not security bits so you can open them up with any screwdriver that fits.

I love that in 2017, someone can still forget that they own NES prototypes. Such a fun, cool situation.

Batman is one of my favorited NES games of all time. Unfortunately I'm running out of cash, but if you or your friend are interested in any high-dollar other old games, let me know. I'd be willing to make a trade.

Of course, this is assuming the legitimacy of this game/prototype is verified.

Actually, have you tested these?  After giving the board a second-look, it looks like the EPROMS are missing.  Yeah, I'm interested but not THAT interested.

the batman cart doesn't appear to have any roms on it, just sockets. curious what the others look like.

I think those protos are legit, I'm pretty sure I've seen a Batman proto with the same label.

If you are running adblock or peer block they will block them I've found, but only sometimes.
 

I just posted pictures of the boards front and back.

legit proto boards. batman has no roms though, just a socketed board. gremlins and dr chaos appear to be intact protos. that dr chaos build is using a different mapper than the finished game (mmc1 vs unrom).

I still can't see the pics but nice you found those. Not that it will really hurt the value, but it seems there are more Gremlin protos than most others. Seems crazy to me.

Does he maybe have any loose EPROMs around? That Batman board is indeed unpopulated.

Since I am researching the history of Sunsoft this is very interesting to me. Also who is your roommate? You can DM me. I have interviewed several people who worked at Sunsoft of America.

I forgot all about this topic. Would be nice to know more about the Gremlins one and if it's any earlier than what's out there already.

A friend of mine ended up purchasing the protos and the guys Sunsoft employee jacket and I eventually got it all from him for my collection quite a few months back. I have the protos from him for Gremlins 2, Dr. Chaos, Ultima, Galaxian and the Batman thats missing the roms. I cant really provide any specifics about the protos themselves as I have not tested or opened them up since I got them.

Just curious, why haven't you fired them up? 

My buddy said he tested them all and they all worked with the exception of Batman obviously so I didnt bother once I got them back in January. I have a 16 month old that keeps me busy when im home so collecting hasnt been a main focus for me for a while now. I still grab a box or two here and there but the hunt/chase isnt a priority anymore. I do plan to take pics sometime soon so I can be added to the proto owners list though.
