Ok, I like to mess around in chat with my name just as much as anyone else, but lately it's become a problem.  So I am asking everyone right here and now, can you please use your NA name when signing into chat?  Please, this will help avoid bad situations.  The last thing anyone wants is for chat to become a problem, because once it is a problem, it will simply go away. Then we will have to resort to using a regular tinychat room and risk trolls.

So this is my plea, can everyone please use the regular NA name when going into chat?

I'm bad about this myself, I've used various names, Paul, Premiumpaul, nacampout, etc. but I've realized and seen how this is a problem, and before it becomes a large problem, I'm asking everyone who uses the NA chatroom to please use their NA name as their chat name.

I agree. I will no say whom, but there was somebody that changed their name to another member and was goofing off. You should only be using your name, not anybody else's

I really need to get a mic. I already post on here than most would probably like, might as well take the journey and go full audio.

I wish it would automatically sign you in with your NA username and you couldn't change it (only append something like AFK, or STATUS_DRUNK). I hate how it has all these options for signing in now.

+1

I don't see why it's even an option to choose your own name of the moment.

I figure it's okay if it's obvious who it is...if I were to sign in as "Da Wiz" I don't think anyone would be confused, but it has been a bit of an issue where it's like "Who the fuck is this?"

Na only links to a free chat site. There is no option to limit usernames, that's why I am asking everyone to do this.

I always knew your name was an abbreviation. I'll bet the local priests are pissed off about the competition.

There has to be a decent open source chat client that we could host locally on the site that would alleviate these problems. I agree, it is a pain when people mess around like that, but anyone who wants to be malicious still has the option.

I have a feeling that if there were such an option, it would've been implimented by now...

There are numerous IRC daemons... apparently, that's not how anyone wants to chat anymore though, so afaik, that only leaves jabber, and I haven't used jabber multi-user chats in a while, so I don't even know if the daemon supports it anymore?

I stay away from the chat because it's tinychat... but that's just me. I'm probably in the minority, preferring IRC.

IRC is the best chat client I've ever used as well but from what I recall, NA originally used an IRC client and there wasn't much of a turn out?

We also only had 1/10 the userbase at the time.

Edit -

Original Chat Room - January 8th, 2007

NA hits 300 members - August 21st, 2007

Biggest trouble is people get used to features like video in the chat, and that's a lot harder to find free elsewhere...
