One thing that confuses me is the date code on that lockout chip, 44th week of 89 puts it after megaman 2 released. Perhaps the PAL version?

Japanese version would not be on that board. That is US/PAL. Japanese version came out first anyway.

Test it. Mine has many, many text differences.

My MM2 proto has a shit ton of differences too. The developer replaced the name Wiley with "Cock". Pretty wild stuff.

Nice find! I've seen/heard about 3 different versions of MM2 protos so far. That one appears to look exactly like a few others that are floating around. Based on what I know about them and that sticker specifically I would take a guess as close to final. Who knows though, give it a play through or dump and compare!

Unfortunately that proto doesn't exist but maybe someone can make a rom hack for us to enjoy.

This is the dream when buying prototypes right? 

 

LOL! I want to see one where they rename the bad guy “Minoru Arakawa” with his henchmen “Howard Phillips,” “Howard Lincoln,” “Dan Owsen,” “Armond Williams,” and “Leslie Swan,” since you know they caused most of the frustration with playtesting, censorship, and localization concerns.
