I have owned a Kindle for a while now, and I must say, this little compilation by Nintendo/HarperCollins has impressed me.
I am actually enjoying reading for longer periods of time because this little software does what Kindle does not.
I am surprised that Amazon didn't use the dual-screen layout for its eReader from the beginning. I also never liked the super slim feel of the Kindle itself, it always felt awkward like it was going to slip out and didn't feel as engaging like holding the front/back of the book open. The Classic Book collection on NDS feels more appropriate and thicker, giving a better grip as well as the usual charms Nintendo likes to throw in like background music and an assortment of author bios and footnotes. These of course, are all public domain classic novels, but the selection is good. Only flaw is that the lit screen is probably going to tire people's eyes more quickly as is the case with extensive reading on most screens of this type. Still, there should be a modern e-Reader that can do dual-screen with the light and e-ink (as the recent Kindle Paperwhite does). Maybe I would be more warm to them, then. But for the most part, I prefer this.

That's pretty cool. I didn't know they made a classic book compilation for the DS. Which one are you going to read first?

I already marked as 'completed' the ones that I had already read on actual print. But I did get back to 'Through the Looking Glass' and finished it on the collection, as I no longer had the book itself and didn't finish it when I did. Right now, though, I'm just browsing to see what I want to try and settle on to finish for the time being.

Yeah i love weird quirky titles like this, really pulling more out of the ds and can be found for quite cheap given its 100 books haha
I was really happy to get it for my collection but alas never have read with it.

Apparently, the UK version is more common because it was a best-seller over there. There's also some differences in the book choices between the US and UK versions. Personally, I'm happy with what's on the US version, but since the original DS is all-region, you can own both if you want to and get the whole package.

I wonder if there's a big speed running community for this game.😋

It's not really a game.  Though personally I find non gaming software on game consoles to be quite interesting.

I might pick it up, it's surprising cheap. I wish there was more scifi but I'm not sure if HG Wells is public domain yet.

This is such a weird title, but NIB for $5 CAD is just a steal.

HG Wells certainly is public domain, as well as Jules Verne, and as a matter of fact, The Time Machine is one of the books on this collection, as well as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Journey to the Center of the Earth, by Verne!

That would be so broken! Those guys with photographic memories would sweep the floor with the records!

...You think they'd tier it? Photographic memories in one category, and Just-A-Guys in another?

Not at all. I didn't even think about your name until after I posted.

Just-A-Guy means someone who doesn't have special talents/abilities related to the task at hand. Given that we are talking about reading, those with photographic memories would have a special ability that the rest of us Just-A-Guys don't have.

Sorry about the confusion!

I'm just messing with you. When your last name is Guy, like myself, you tend not to take things too seriously.

The battery life issue vs. Kindle's is another shortcoming but yes, I do like this little software. In fact, it was released before Kindle became mainstream.
