^Glad to see you back Matty. And I figured you'd have already posted a crazy high score Space Jockey since you said you were amazing at this game. I want to see what you can do.

I work double shifts Saturday Sunday Monday, so sometime tonight I'll be posting up something pretty darn high.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

I'm definitely interested to seen what constitutes a high score from someone who grew up on the game.

I've never played it before this week, and the mechanic of juggling two incoming sides is pretty wild and I have a terrible tendency for putting the cursor on the piece I want to move rather than just somewhere on the row or column...wastes a ton of time.

I'm really enjoying the game. I just hate the touch screen controls. I'm heading to the flea market Friday to see if I can get a copy unless someone here has a cart to sell on the cheap .

57150, Level 7-10 really brought the game, so be ready for it. This score is without any attempts to max score, just a speed run.

As a comparison I just got 23990 on level 1-2, so the challenge is how long and how far can you spam cookies before advancing

Yeah, it is tough to get much above 15k on 1-1, and the one time I cleared 21k on that level involved a 64x multiplier at one point.

This is a LONG game to go for max scoring...

Had this game for Super Nintendo actually when I was younger. Haven't played in probably close to 20 years, still pretty fun...

Something I've noticed, I think the cookies speed up when your score gets higher. So infinitely doing the lower levels wont be possible as the cookies will speed up very quickly. My cookie speed wasn't this high on level 1-x before when I was on level 7-X on my first try ill tell you that.

Edit: Also it seems to temporarily reset the speed to slow when you go from 1-10 to 2-1 and 2-10 to 3-1, etc

I was thinking milking the lower levels wouldn't be sustainable unless you have tetris max out score-like reflexes. All my runs last night usually started fantastic (15-20k) only to get derailed way too soon. I'll probably try to work out a good balance when I can resume playing. One thing is for sure,I really like this game. I generally suck at puzzle games and am not a big fan of them, but I think Yoshi's cookie could be an exception.

If you want the best score you have to mix the milking and the levels.
Yes you can get over 10K in the first level but that will put the game out of balance.

The key to getting the best score is mixing.
Milk the levels but not to much so the speed is controllable for you.
So mix your level of play with the milking.

In other words:
If you are bad at this game i would advice you to milk as much as possible for the highest score.
If you grew up with this game or you are good at it. I would advice to mix careful milking with advancing in the game.

I now have access to the secret levels. This was my run with spamming the lower levels too.

Any understanding on how the speed metering actually works as a game mechanic?

I know the game that I cleared 57k by 1-4, it got out of hand pretty quickly.

At first I thought it was a cumulative function of how many Yoshi cookies had appeared in a given level, but I'm pretty sure some levels just start faster if you already have a higher score.

The score effects the speed.
How much you can milk depends on you skill level .

I am asking specifically, in what way does the score impact the speed?

Is it total cumulative score?  Or do they carry a hidden "Stage Score" that resets at 2-1, 3-1, etc?

From my playing it is pretty clear that it isn't just linearly scaled with total score.

EDIT:  as a side-bet we should see who can hit 100k at the lowest level...

Don't have the source code . I can't give you any hard numbers.
I'm not really a number player anyway.
The game resets a little bit at 2-1 3-1 etc. but speeds up quick again.
So it's a cumulative score in a way but not linearly.
Maybe somebody from the tech aid can check it out.
