Question is straight forward. What are the various ways data can be saved for this game? Does all data save directly to the cartridge or is a controller pak necessary? Or does it do both? If I have a controller pak is inserted will it default save to that or does it not matter?

How do times, high scores and course unlocks all save? Any help would be greatly be appreciated before I dive into this game. Thanks.

Reading the manual online I think everything saves to the cart and the memory pack is optional to move data to different systems.

So everything saves directly to the cartridge (times, high scores and course unlocks)? The only reason for a controller pak would be to transfer the information to another game cartridge?

I think at least with Mario Kart 64 stuff like ghost track/time trial data (Where you race yourself to better your time) is stored on the memory card instead of the cart. Might be the same way with Wave Race?

Yeah, I am not sure if it functions the same way. Was hoping an N64 expert could weigh in before I start this game. Just curious how it works and looking for a clear definitive answer.

Just curious. Can anyone confirm that all information saves to the cartridge?

So I played a time trial course and two stunt courses. Achieved records on all three. Entered my name then shut the game off and turned it back on and nothing was there. Do I have a bad cartridge or am I doing something wrong?

Popped the game in and thought of this thread. I'm wrong. My 64 was a gift from my brother a Christmas or two ago. Didnt realize he had put a memory card in there. I bought this game used not all that long ago and it's just my records, no previous owner. Sorry for the bad info.

No worries, I got another cart and it seems that information is supposed to save to the cartridge, the original cartridge didn't hold data but the new one I located does.
