A friend of mine was doing some rounds visiting some local game stores I believe in the San Jose area when an old lady in front of him had just sold these to the store owner. He immediately asked to purchase them and then messaged me online asking if they were what he thought they were. I confirmed they were indeed prototypes! The Michael Jackson Moonwalker Coming Soon thing appears to be undumped anywhere online as well. One heck of a find in the wild!

I asked him if he'd be keeping them for his collection and he didn't think so. He offered them to be me, but I don't really collect Sega Master prototypes myself. If anyone is interested in them and wants to get in contact with him, let me know!

These are sneaky-common and are more like store demos than true prototypes. You see this pop up fairly frequently on eBay. This is a good example of a "true" prototype that recently ended on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/Alex-Kid...:~-wAAOSwR0dcEyBX . They're typically large, double-sided pcbs.

With that said, they're still desirable and command a decent chunk of cash.

Yea, I wasn't sure if they were more demo or prototype myself. I wish I could take a look at them in person. I remember there were also some out there on the SMS that had paper labels instead of retail labels even though they looked the same to the naked Eye. They also had different manauls with lots of spelling errors, and boxes that had inserts from some kind of show that advertised "coming soon" games from Sega.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a fantastic score. Golden Axe Warrior is one of the most underrated titles of the era, and one that I would have loved to get my hands on when I was more actively collecting.

Really cool, especially how the Master system became irrelevant in its later life.
