Story time!
About Mario Party:
I bought a minty SMRPG, Pocky and Rocky, Aladdin, and some other games from a guy for a great deal. He contacts me a few months later and wants to sell his N64 and games for a great deal (AND he has Kirby 64, my most desired N64 game). I drive the 40 miles again, look at the games, and the first thing I say is "REALLY?!" Apparently he got bored. Mario Party is the worst of the bunch but all the games I got from him have some graffiti somewhere (except the terrible sports games which are all minty). Why he spared Pocky and Rocky but not these I have no idea, but damn am I glad. Also he could not find Kirby. Overall it went from an awesome deal to on okay deal.
About Elemental Gearbolt:
Elemental Gearbolt was in one piece when I bought it. The guy selling it was going to throw it out when I looked at the CD and saw it had some weird imperfection (like someone had melted some of the plastic on one spot of the disc). I paid $5 for it because I'm an idiot. Over several days and about 6 hours I ran the thing through a disc doctor, took sandpaper to it, took toothpaste to it, and everything else I could think of. I got it from not a recognizable CD, to freezing on the Sony logo, to freezing on the Working Designs Presents screen. Then I got impatient and decided to try a high powered buffer on it. Less than a second after that bad idea it is as you see now.
About Saga Frontier:
Ever play a disc game for more than a 1000 hours over a decade? Eventually I started getting DRE's on the game (or rather freezes, not booting, etch). One idea on how to fix PSX DRE was to put tape on the disc. Whether it added weight or balanced it better, it actually works. I have one other game suffering from that kind of abuse, Final Fantasy Tactics, another one of my favorite games of all time.
I'm also missing the instructions to Saga Frontier and I know why. Saga Frontier is the best RPG ever made and the worst RPG ever made at the same time. In another universe FFVII failed and Saga Frontier became the RPG that all RPGs attempted to imitate. The reason why Saga Frontier is the best RPG of all time is the combat system. It is revolutionary, unique, and genius. The reason why its bad? Well there are a couple, but the biggest reason is it is almost impossible to figure out the battle system alone. I love reading reviews for the game because each review describes the battle system differently. Back to the instructions, when I first started playing the game I of course had no idea how the battle system worked. I searched the instructions repeatedly for anything to help me. Other than some minor flavor, the instructions say nothing or are completely wrong about everything they talk about.
