Has anyone else noticed this on ebay? sometime ago they updated their catalog system. essentially, if the console isn't a fancy special edition system, it gets the label of "launch edition".

For most systems it's ok, some had a lot of fancy versions. Then there's a console like the Virtual Boy, "launch edition" is a bit of an oxymoron isn't it? every virtual boy is techncially a launch system.

I've seen many mislabeled listings that say European Edition in the title. Who are these people who just click a product out of the catalog then don't even double check the title? Madmen!

It's somehow misapplied after there was a "launch edition" XBOX ONE.

I noticed this when looking at GBC boxes long ago and noticed that they kept calling the ones without the metallic sheen "Launch Edition" when those were only follow-up shipments. Now you see it on everything. There are even "Launch Edition" Funtastic N64 consoles. Uhh, I don't recall seeing any Fire, Grape, Watermelon, Jungle, Ice, Smoke, etc consoles on September 29th, 1996.

Oh, well, I was wondering where all of these "Launch Edition" titles were coming from. IMHO, a "Launch Edition" should be the system (box, contents and model number) that came out on day #1, because that is an actual launch unit.

Now I see that it's suppose to mean an original, base model. I don't really like the use of the phrase but I wouldn't mind it, if it were used properly.

I sold a 3DS recently which eBay labeled as Launch Edition. It made several people ask if it was one of the early $250 ones that were eligible for the free Ambassador games when Nintendo lowered the price.

Nice, I have an Ambassador edition.  I bought it when I heard that they were going to do that.  I was planning on evenutally getting a 3DS after a while but at that time it wasn't on my radar since I already had a DS that I was happy with.  10+ free classic games changed my mind, though.

I did the same thing. Ran out and got one for $250 at Best Buy, waited a week or two, then did the 110% Price Protection Guarantee to take off $88 plus tax. August 2011, IIRC. I was still living in San Diego.
