All Kickstarter rewards have shipped! Alfonzo's Arctic Adventure will be released for sale to the public on April 1.

Original Post:
Hey,

Just wanted to post an update about the Eskimo Bob sequel I've been working on: The Alfonzo Game. I have a complete 15 level demo + boss fight finished and I'd like to get some feedback on it so far.

Update Mar 30, 2018:

I've updated the demo. Same levels, but a significant overhaul of everything. I've talked before about how much better the "real" version of the game is compared to the NESDEV Compo entry, so I thought I should give everyone a chance to play it. Happy Easter!

Here's a gameplay video of the game as of Feb 18/18. Showcases some of the new features not available in the NESDev competition demos, such as the map screen and secret exits.

Played through it. Pretty nice, the transformations remind me of Mission Kelloggs. Though the last two levels and flies were pretty annoying.

- I managed to stand on top of fishes a couple times, without falling through
- in the boss, I first thought the flying shell was a powerup, lol
- the up arrow for signs wasn't discoverable. How about making the signs contain an up arrow instead of scribbles?

Can you tell me what happened when you stood on the fish? Are you able to replicate it? Was it specific to using a certain character or a certain location?

Also, in the main version of the game, I have a blinking d-pad with the up arrow pressed above signs the first time you see them, but it was one of the things I cut as I have less CHR-ROM to work with. I suppose putting it on the sign for the demo might not hurt.

**EDIT** I've uploaded a new version which may have fixed the collision problems, just went over everything pretty meticulously and found a couple instances where there could be issues. I added a little d-pad up icon above the first sign as well. It doesn't animate like in the main version but I think it serves the purpose clearly enough.

It happened in several places, but I'm afraid I don't remember where or which character.

There were a couple of instances in the code that could have caused potential collision errors when falling. It likely would've seemed almost random based on what the code looked like. Should be fixed now in the new version anyway.

I think the cave levels could use different colored fish. Grey fish on grey walls look like cave paintings

The fish will be animated in the full version, so they'll stand out better. I may change the wall color as well.

Updated the demo to include some bug fixes regarding collision detection. It seems that if you landed at exact the corner of a block you could wind up getting stuck in the corner. That should be fine now. Also darkened up cave walls to make fish more visually distinct.

I've just uploaded a second demo from the Alfonzo Game. This is a preview of the new two-player melee mode. I've called the demo Alfonzo Melee. It has all four characters and 8 battle stages!

Check it out here!

Here's a gameplay video showing some of the progress I've made since making the demo. I've added a map, secret exits, a better menu system, and animated backgrounds. The full game is also now called Alfonzo's Arctic Adventure. I feel like progress is coming along really well. Enjoy!

Thanks for the feedback! It's definitely gone way past the initial "level expansion pack" concept I was going for and into full-blown sequel territory.

Just re-uploaded the latest demo. Found a potentially nasty sequence-breaking bug before anyone else noticed, so I fixed it.

I've never heard of either of these games....May be adding a new homebrew title to mix! You can still order the original game, right?
