i use to have one of these for my famiclone . it doesn't affect the play at all.

I've never seen an AV Famicom before.

I really like it because I play a lot of famicom games, and the adapters that to play famicom games on regular nes all seem to work like crap whereas the nes->fc adapters work great.  Also, it has av output and a famicom accessory port.

Wouldn't it run slower on a pal system?

Japan is NTSC.

If you got all 4 engines, he is almost dead.  Just keep shooting him with power-up blasts.  You might need to shoot the center instead of the wings at this point, (not really sure).  On one level later on, you need to kill 3 progressively harder planes like this one

Reached the 3rd Boss and killed is inboard engines...that dude is a BEAST.

Also had pretty good luck finding the hidden "upgrade" spots, fuel barrels, and... cows

Man, that third boss was hard, but after that fairly easy. All I had to do was press A and I would've been fine. I beat the boss for level 6 (I think it was), but one of the projectiles hit me. UGH!

So what upgrade path are people choosing?

It seems like Energy and Special Weapon Time are the two most important things.

I've only tried two of the special weapons, though. What is there besides the Spread and the Lasers?

I always start with the bottom three and upgrade weapon time and energy at least once. Offensive doesn't become important really until about level 8 when everything starts taking 2 hits.

Good to know. The first couple of games I maxed attack strength, but then started getting interested in energy and weapons.

So what's the Special Weapon cycle? I take it there are 4 available?

Is it worth the danger of cycling through the weapons, or is it better to just take the Spread?

I always take the second level weapon, the long range spreader. The first level spreader is ass. I accidentally picked it up once, late into level 3, where the enemies are swarming like crazy, and I was like.. well.. I'm dead now.

As for upgrades via the selection screen.. I usually take one special weapon time, one special weapon (needed for good spreader), and either one defense, or one offense. At first I never used the offense, but later on I tried it out, and it makes anything with turrets a breeze, especially combined with charging your shots. I don't use the energy much, only when it's do or die.

Can't wait to get passed the third level boss. That score jump is huge Deniz.

I have a whole pattern. First you take the middle three (I think that's defense, energy, and SW). Then, you upgrade energy 2 times in a row. Next, defense once, and also SW Time. Then offense. Then Energy again, however I think instead for that one I should've done SW Time (that's when I died, level 8 I believe. Energy is by far the most important. Also, special weapons aren't that necessary early on since spreadshot is really good enough to get you through the first 8 or so.

Seems to be a lot of competition for this one, too bad I can't join you all, even if I have a heavy hatred for this game. Eh, there'll be other times. Its good just to see all the score posting, its exciting.

Pretty positive that turbo controllers aren't allowed.

The plane at the end of the third level is pissing me off.

From the overall rules:

Turbo Controllers are NOT allowed to be used. Neither are any controllers that give you any advantage over regular controllers such as slow motion or turbo ability."
