Are you going to try and get both versions of NWC, or would one or the other be good enough for you? Not that I'm ever going to be able to own either, but I was just wondering after looking at all of the posts about which variations of a specific game people need.

Personally, I consider the NWC as being in the same class as prototypes/demo cartridges, and as such I don't consider it a part of the actual NTSC NES collection. Of course, if I found one at a flea market for $20, I'd snatch it up, but I don't feel I need it to have a complete collection.

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

I collect "major" variants like cartridge color differences and label/packaging redesigns, and so I personally have 2 NWC's on my needed list:

-NWC 1990 Gold
-NWC 1990 Gray

I guess if I ever get a hold of both, the gray one would be my 'play' copy, heh.

...and you're right, these crazy 100% variant collector's will NEVER have a full set until they have every numbered gray cart known to exist! It's kinda like trying to collect Sachen variants or trying to eat soup with a fork: it's a lot of hard work and you never really feel like you're getting anywhere.

-------------------------

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

"Play copy"!! lol

I will never own a NWC in any color. I feel the same way Wiz feels, I dont feel I need it to complete my collection. But everyone has there own idea of what a complete collection is and thats whats so great about this hobby.... And I dont know wiz 20 bucks for one of these?? Id probably try to talk him down to 15

When it comes to variants I'm kinda stuck. Ive always told myself I wouldn't collect them but now I've found myself hanging onto two variants, the gold and grey zelda's. Im not sure what this means....?? does this mean that I now must have the main label or cart variations of every game like metroid, or even the color changes in the top label writing... I don't know what to do?? this is one thing I've been pondering all week but have yet to come up with a solution...

You could always start off small on the variations and just put them aside and not trade/sell them off as mere doubles. I still have a pile of stuff that is just different, like manuals with * on them or -1 versions of cart/boxes etc that I still am not 100% sure what to do with.

I would like to own them both, but I'm not too excited to pay the price for them. I'm hoping to get a gold one if I win a little bet I made with my brother (Sloan, if you're reading this, I have this funny feeling I'm going to win that bet -- start lookin' for a seller!
