My week has opened up so I'm going to keep playing this after all. With that said, I do have a question concerning the rules this week:

Since the levels do have a timer, is points/money grinding allowed?

I wanted to ask before I post my latest score since it is high.

The general rule last season was that as long as the grinding can't generate an infinite life loop and is timed then it is OK.

I just updated my score, I'm now at 13,374,000.

I will say this: Yes, it is possible to get over 13M without the timer glitch I focused on finding all of the diamonds in each level and making sure I was able to access all of the Gyro bonuses as well. I used any extra remaining lives for points grinding in the last level I had remaining and I ended up with this score.

Did you just get bored with the grinding?  You still had a life left and time on the clock

I really didn't think there was 1.5mil in points to grind, but I guess I should have expected it from Guillavoies post about his old score.

that means with perfect timer glitch execution you could approach 15mil.

I didn't get bored really, I looked at it as a challenege .  Honestly, I left points out there for sure since I had a couple of dumb deaths.  I did most of my grinding with 6 lives left and I didnt' use up my final life because I didn't do my grinding on the "final" final level.  I did it on one of the five regular levels and needed to complete it so I could collect the treasure from it.

I didn't think I grinded for 1.5 million, and I don't think it was that much, but looking back it must have been a good amount!  I went for at least 500K in diamonds each run I did through each level (including the trips back after leaving with launchpad, that's 9 runs), all the treasures (5 regular plus the 2 hidden, worth 1M each), and the bonuses.  Minus the bonuses, that comes out to 11.5 million.  With the bonuses that's about 12M, though I had a few level runs too where I had over 600K too (little grinding there).  Either way, I guess I had too much time on my hands

I think during my playthroughs earlier in the week I wasn't even certain that grinding worked reliably, but I didn't bother testing it.

If you pull your 500k before Launchpad AND grind on top of it before bailing, it would be interesting to see how many points are still available.

Yeah, there were still points available, for sure.  For myself, my worst stage to grind is the Amazon since the cavern near the end, where Launchpad is located, is very close quarters and I absolutely suck at using the pogo through the tunnel when that stone ball chases after you.  If I get hit in the pit, then it's almost automatic that I'd get hit by the ball too when it comes back, and that alone takes out 2 parts of my life meter.  I ended up leaving with Launchpad earlier than I wished to there, as well as fight the boss earlier too, so I wouldn't lose many lives in that one area.

Very nice score EgasKrad. I have a score of 12,341,000 that I have yet to post, just figured I would stay pat unless someone trumps my second place score that I can then trump with that score. That is with no boss timer glitches, all Launchpad's (maybe missed 1), and absolutely no grinding, so that gives you a benchmark as to how much grinding you did. I might try a score on an emulator tomorrow, but who knows how that'll turn out.

You didn't miss any launch pads with a score that high.

Some pretty nice scores so far. I still hope to have the time to squeeze something in, I too will probably not play as regularly as I do normally in the 2nd half cause I have a lot of things to work on till 2015, but I wanted to get something good for this one cause it is a very interesting challenge on a cool game.

On the Moon, if you collect the hidden treasure and then go to Launchpad, when you go back to the moon can you collect the treasure again? Probably not but I'm too lazy to check as it's late now and I'm just curious anyway.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

Yeah,I tried that when I played sunday. Would be crazy how high of a score you could get if you could though.

New Score: 12,164,000

I apologize about the pic they are from my phone.  I took 2 (1 at the beginning of the level to be safe) since I hit select sometime during my first run and to show I had the lives yet have slightly less money since after I took a little adventure around the level to try and add a few points.

Nice score, man.  I'm sure you'll be able to improve and probably beat my score too.

I'm sure my score will be beat by the end of this.  I'm going to try to improve somehow too.  This will be a fun weekend!

Actually I just totally destroyed that score today.   Although admittedly, it was no fun in doing so.  The playthrough took 2 and a 1/2 hours, and I usually go through this game in 20-25 minutes.  I'll sit on it until tomorrow afternoon, let the suspense build up a little

Wow.  2.5 hours is insane.  My playthrough took a max of 35 minutes, which tells me you did a shit ton of grinding.

Score: $178,000

Never tried the contests before!

...Unfortunately, I did not solve a mystery - or rewrite history this time.
I'm going to try and qualify for the playoffs though, so do I get a participation point for this disgrace of a score?
