The unofficial NA IRC chat room has been up a while and there are some regulars usually in there. It is more stable than the website one but is a bit more complicated to get in. If you do not already have an IRC program here is how to get in:

go to http://www.mibbit.com...
under Connect to IRC: pick Efnet
in Channel(s) type #nintendoage
enter your nickname in Nick:, 9 characters or fewer
hit Go

Hey Stan, did you try StanStepa? I did that and it let me do it with no prob. Keep in mind that you can only use 9 characters.

Lately everytime I try to load the chat, the page will load about 90% and then stop. I can see who's in the chat, but I can't post or see any of the other posts. I've used it before with no problems.

Is anyone else having difficulty, or is something screwed up on my end?

I had tried Mibbit and the IRC link in this thread, and neither had been working. Mibbit seems to be working for me now, though.

Once you get into the chat room, there is currently an active bot (bunbot) to monitor and chat with. Some things it will do:

ops - these are chat room operators, they can do thing like set the topic and kick people

voice - this is just a status thing, showing who has been talking in the last day

slogan - randomly generates a slogan using the word you provide. Try: !s hellraiser

flame - randomly generates a flame sentence using the name you provide. Try: !flame gimmick

Bunbot will also chat back if you include the name in whatever you write. It grabs previous chats and does word association to generate a reply. Usually this barely makes sense

All the ezines have been fed in so it will generally reply with NES related info.

A couple more commands:

!seen username - this will tell you when username was last seen in the chat room.

!lastspoke username - if username is in the chat room, this will tell you how long it has been since they said anything. If they never spoke it will tell you how long they have been in the chat room

Looks like a new interface again....can we get more clear info for this new one...I tried using EFNET, and it came up as banned....not sure if it just wasn't working at the time or what.

Which way were you using to get into it? Banning is done by IP at the IRC server level so you may have to use a different way.

I've just gone to Mibbit and clicked start chatting and I found the EFNET server and put in #nintendoage for the room and it just took me to the 2nd popup but not the chatroom.
