well, low income groups tend to identify with the democratic party. "rednecks" almost invariably fall into that group.

Not rednecks though. Rednecks are generally really religious, so to have them vote for a candidate that is as liberal as Obama is pretty refreshing.

Being religious doesn't prevent somebody from voting democrat.  And it certainly hasn't prevented the deep south from being democrat at the state level up until very recently.
