So got the AVS today, super happy with it. Looks amazing on a 1440p screen. After dinking around a bit in castlevania, I decided to try a translated Japanese rom via the everdrive. Locked up the AVS. And I mean locked up like even the key button combo to go back to the menu didnt work.

Ok fair enough, so I decided to try out a unmodified japanese rom of Castlevania III(Akumajou Densetsu (Japan) Legend of Demon Castle - Castlevania III) . Locked up the AVS again, had to hard restart it. Anyone else want to try this out so I know its not just me? I tried on the factory AVS firmware, and the updated beta firmware. Extra sprites was not turned on, and BOTH roms work fine on my real NES toaster.

Which beta are you using?

I think it's some individual units locking up on certain types of ROMs, no rhyme or reason. I've seen people get the Japanese CVIII working.

The betas might have some bugs still in them.

Did you try 1.10? You would lose the palettes, but it might get the ROM working.

I had issues with Castlevania 3 (both US and JP) on 1.20b5. They were fixed with 1.20b6. go to retrousb.com/downloads to download.

It sounds like it might be for AVS. I own an Everdrive and the Japanese copy if Castlevania III. I played both in my AVS, both versions worked fine. Maybe try to update/reload the firmware.

I tried about 3 differrent roms. Dont know whats up. All of them worked in a real NES with the Everdrive, but not the AVS. Its weird for sure.

typical everdrive troubleshooting:
copy roms to computer
format SD card
Install OS from a fresh download from krikzz
copy roms back over

Not to come off as harsh but you've come to ask for help and I gave you advice. You certainly need not take it but I can tell you the AVS works for multiple people with CIII real cart and everdrives...

So maybe, just maybe, try what I wrote

You need to format your Everdrive SD card and download new new files from the Everdrive site. It does not matter if it works on your NES or not. Many other people have had to do the same thing.

If I have issues, I never copy to the computer and then back again. I don't want to preserve any file corruption in the process, even at the cost of game saves.

Also, try using the smokemonster everdrive set from epforums. I have yet to have issues with any ROMs that previously were troublesome from other sources. It's been great to use, and easy to reload from my computer if needed.

Use something like YAFS (yet another fat sorter) to organize your folders and files into alphabetical order as things are periodically updated in this rom set, so order when viewed from the everdrive isn't a guaranteed thing without it.

I apologize, formatted the card, and used the recommended smokemonster set and everything works fine. I wonder what it was about the old stuff that caused issues.

No need to apologize, it's probably just file corruption, or an impure rom image.

Everdrives seem particularly sensitive to file/structure corruption, so I try to limit how much I go back and add after formatting and reloading (new hacks and stuff I find).
