What are your guys opinions on this article? There are many things that I find to be wrong with his claim that shoot down his theory this is a genuine prototype, but he clings to his story to the very end. He has a video link where he opened up the cart to find out whats inside (eproms or regular chips) but I cannot watch it (damn AOL). He also has the ROM available for download, but im a computer idiot and wouldnt know what to do with it. Has anyone else heard of this proto?

The one for the NES is a fake. There is one for the SNES though. Can't remember who owns it but I know Daae-Norway really wanted it. Also, a legit proto of Zelda 1 does exist. DreamTR owns it. Not sure what differences are in it though.

Here's a link about it over at nesforums:

At least you can see what some of us had to say about it. We might have trailed off a bit but I think we eventually got back around to talking about it. You have to be a member of the boards though to see it.

Complete fake. The guy lived less than 50 miles from me and refused to allow me to come play it. I told him that if I could prove it was real by playing it I could guarantee him 1500+ for it easy and prob over 2k. He said he didn't want anyone coming to meet him. I offered to rent a hotel and bring my NES, all he had to do was bring the game to play. I also told him he could bring as many friend as he wanted in case he thought I was going to steal it or something. He said he refused to let anyone pay it unless they paid for it first. Total scam. He refused to posts screens other than the title too. He just wanted to get attention.

From all I've seen and read about this, I am almost certain that it's a hoax.

Even if you could go over to his house and play it, it could easily just be someone's crappy nes reproduction. I could put that game together with a simular screen in like a week, and even have gameplay anyone could play. Doesn't make it real. It's a huge scam, I mean it just so happens to be zelda... which has a huge -if not- the biggest fan base of any series.

True, but you could tell by looking at the PCB boards maybe. At least get some pics of them so other more knowledgable people could look at them. Most repros have wires connecting to stuff, so that would be a dead giveaway. I agree is is a huge fucking scam though.

If anyone really wanted to find out they could just ask Nintendo if they ever tried to make a Zelda 3 on the nes. I'll see what I can find out.... just for the heck of it.

It has been asked before and I'm pretty sure a rep said it was never in the works.  The person contacted Nintendo Power magazine though, so who knows...

It isn't real, everyone needs to move on and stop paying attention to this idiot and the other one who said he had a copy of it.  There's an entire thread on Digital Press from when the first guy tried selling one on ebay.
