Games that I've played enough to form a valid opinion of that go largely unnoticed:

Rygar I popped the game in on a lark, and was so engrossed in the game that I had to play it through to completion.  It's definitely one that you need to pay attention to the manual though, it's pretty easy to get lost and confused.

Kid Niki: Radical Ninja This is one hell of a fun arcade port.  It's one of those games that you can pop in, play for 15 minutes and either finish the game or not, but you have a ton of fun in the meantime.

Bump 'n Jump Another game you can pop in for a quick run.  Doesn't matter how far or well you do, it's fun regardless.

Dr. Chaos I've been playing this for a few days now, and it's reputation is not deserved.  It has some of the best music I've heard on the NES, and a great title screen to boot.  The gameplay can be a bit frustrating...hit detection on the knife is pretty terrible...but it doesn't completely destroy the experience.  It's just a matter of finding your way around the game, and once you do it's not only easy, but fun as well.

I'll post more when I think of them

-------------------------

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

I love me some North and South! Nothing beats hearing the bugle sound as your calvary charges and you use your 1 horse to defeat the entire enemy army!

I don't usually hear a lot of talk about V.I.C.E. Project Doom.. Considering the popularity of Ninja Gaiden and how awesome of a clone this one is, it should be talked about more often..

I agree. I know a few people that didn't like the Spy-Hunteresque opening level, but the rest of the game is wicked! Not to mention that the Punisher-style level was a nice diversion!

Super Spy Hunter - Great graphics/effects and an awesome soundtrack. The gameplay is also solid and I enjoy every gaming session of it.

Shatterhand - Again, wonderful presentation, smooth control and a cool power up gimmick with your robotic helper. My favourite NES game.

Laser Invasion - Greatest flight combat game for the NES (IMO). And not only that but it contains rail shooter and first-person modes aswell. A very underrated NES game.

Faxanadu the zelda 2 clone is a decent game underrrated game.

The music and gameplay have a medieval theme. The game seems very dark and sinister to me and is worth checking out even though Zelda 2 is much better.

Sqoon, Rampart and Trog. I find all of the games to be must-owns, yet many people have never even tried them. I was actually guilty of never playing Sqoon, but thanks for the weekly contest I now appreciate that game!

I liked Dynowarz, and Ghoul School. Mostly because the music in ghoul school was pretty cool.

I guess every bastard that is out to kill you in this game is "the" aforementioned spy.

I would have to say Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

I picked this game up about three weeks ago to see if it was as bad as people were saying, but when I popped the game in, I actually had a fun time playing it.

underrated...

trojan - actually a lot of fun
pow - one of my favorites growing up
yoshi/yoshi's cookie - actually really fun puzzle games
jaws - really fun game
monster in my pocket - great game
shinobi - yeah, it is near impossible, but this game was awesome back in the day.

zen, kirby, scat, powerblade 2, little samson, wacky races - games that are really really good, but you don't hear much of them outside of collectors.

I was gonna say Sweet Home, but that was Famicom. Simply because of the enemies.

"...MAN!!!"

"...WALL!!!"

I'd say Battle of Olympus for NES. Fairly well-rated game, but because it didn't have the Zelda name, the not-as-good-but-still-underrated Zelda II was more commonly known.

I agree with every game you listed except of Power Blade 2. While the first one had an emphasis on exploration (which I felt was its biggest strength), Power Blade 2 is just another "A to B" jump 'n' run. Atleast the graphics are nice and the music kicks ass.
