I'm pretty certain someone else can get to my score as well as surpass it. Last time I lost against someone else by a couple hours in rolling the score. So it can be done.

We're probably going to admit rolled score. With the number of lives left displayed, it is easy to discern if a score is rolled. So, if you happen to roll it anytime soon, don't stop playing, go all through the game and do your best.

Indeed. Keep going until you die, even after rolling score if you do, or until the game restarts you back at the beginning after beating it without dying if you happen to.

Probably not by me personally, but I am damn well going to try!

Okay, raising the bar a tad more, didn't roll it, ended up dying in the same place but this time because I was recording the game and got sloppy each time I pushed my camcorder aside to take a pic because I wanted to catch my highest score before it rolled, caused myself to take unnecessary hits. But, I have all day, will try again to get a better game played.

Score upon 1st death 999,920

See next post for rolled score.

Hmm... I'm tempted to try to conquer this score... I probably won't, since I haven't played Castlevania since early this past summer (excluding the one play where I got my listed score) so I'm a bit rusty. But hey, it could be fun. =3

Very impressive, though, to say the least.

I'm gonna give it a shot one of these nights when I'm free; I hope I can do it. I know I could definitely raise my previous score.

Same. Again I say - stupid bats. I'm just gonna run past them and ignore them my next time through, like usual. I was being daring and trying to kill them.

For anyone who is going to roll the score, make sure to take a picture before you roll the score and then take a picture once you die.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

Oops! Now you tell me. This time I rolled the score, it went 200 points over and I totally missed being able to take a pic before it rolled, but do have video, but I have to rerecord it since its on an old camcorder, so I have to play the video on tv, then record that with my webcam so I can upload it, if you need more proof.

Going to post my rolled score pick anyway, decide as you will, afterall, I can just as easily do it again.

Score upon 1st death, rolled score + 74,700

See a later post for a higher rolled score.

Haha, I'm a little afraid to even play this now. It will definitely be participation, since the last time I really played this game was probably 1989

Didn't see a rule against it, and you are limited by the timer. If you know how to rack some points, go for it, you still have to be able to survive to rack some more at the next opportunity. I watched myself, via recording (was trying to upload to youtube but they were under maintenence for several hours, will have to try again soon), and it looks easy (it was and wasn't, one big screw up could cost me a life, be it nabbing the wrong subweapon accidently or taking too long, or dying in one of several dangerous spots making whatever time I put into racking pointless), also I sat on the same locations for quite some minutes before being forced ahead by time, seemed like a very long time having watched it, but its not like I sat in the same spot for hours. The timer will keep you check, and tell you when enough is enough, time to move on or risk having your life expired.

Whenever there is a timer, racking/scabbing/leaching is usually allowed. Wasn't this discussed last year or am I imagining things?

Killer scores Megan!

Yeah, and you get less if the timer goes down too far. Good number of points for that and hearts. I try to hold them off as long as I can, but it's tough. Some crazy scores in here! In a week or so I'll be showing my students gameplay of me beating Castlevania as part of one of my lectures.

What do you teach that showing gaming would be part of a lecture? Sounds like a fun class.

Yeah, I'd be down to sign up for that class...

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

I broke 100k! Then made a completely foolish move on a raven and fell into a hole... great game.  Thanks for picking this one
