I've got an N64 that outputs the video no problem but wont output any sound. I've tried using an RF cable and a composite cable with the red/white audio outputs. I've tried using both cables on two TVs. Any ideas ?

Cables may need cleaning. A good way to polish them (AV) is by getting steel wool and lightly polishing the silver part. If all else fails.... https://www.gameovervideogames.co...

i've tried 2 av cables and an rf cable, and they all work fine on another N64. It's definitely not a problem with the cables.

hmm, may just be a problem with the n64. Can't really help you out there.

Are you sure its an American N64? I had a problem trying to run a European N64 on American TVs. Although my video was gray and slightly distorted, had no audio either. Check the console to be sure its NTSC

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.

Another thing to check is the pins on the console itself where you plug the cable in.

The video shows up perfect,im sure its not a region thing. i bought it at a local flea market with a bunch of ntsc games. i tried cleaning the contacts of where the AV Cable goes into the system.

If it is not the AV cord I suggest you pick up a replacement N64 deck as they will be cheaper than having it fixed.

Open it up and take a look! Maybe one of the solder joins inside at the AV port is broke, or something else electrical is wrong inside.

This might be the first time I've heard of an N64 that *didn't* work perfectly. Seriously. In all the dozens of consoles, I've never seen a broken N64. I've seen them beat all to hell, with pennies rattling around inside of them and the reset button jammed down, glued there with spilled coke. I've seen one with the housing completely smashed. But I've never seen one that wouldn't work.

Beyond a bad solder joint on the port, or something conductive shorting the audio output, I wouldn't bother trying to fix it. Just find a cosmetically damaged N64 and swap the board.
