I've never finished the second loop personally, but I believe that it keeps going. The TG record is 1.5 million with a 5 life limit and since there's an in game time limit, I'm guessing that it just keeps starting over on the more difficult loop.

Shouldn't scores be comparable, i.e. all start from the first level?

Usually, you'd post your score along with the stage you reached on 1 credit (at least in shmups that's pretty much how we do it).
I was only doing that because I did not think the game looped and I couldn't figure out how to disprove someone had skipped ahead, or why they would want to

Anyways rules updated.  I'm learning here

Wow I actually have all 12 of those games. I'll put a Castlevania score down sometime this month.

Up to 321,690 on the 2nd way through. I've never played through the + quest. Seems like some parts are sped up and they added a few more enemies. Lots of bats added and LOTS of slow down. I actually thought the game was going to freeze on the level where the skulls fall through the rotating background and the floor is falling beneath you. Way too much going on for a SNES game to handle properly.

Ok somehow I didn't notice this when testing but

A) I suck
B) The game doesn't showcase your score on the continue screen. You must log your score BEFORE YOU GAME OVER

If you're about to die on your final life, or on some tricky platforming, I recommend you get your pic

Anyways not a big deal for me since I got owned on level 3, so I'll be back again tomorrow with a slightly less terrible showing.

I'd love to know why SNES games have a habit of doing that; Super Star Wars was the same way

Yeah, pros like Andy or pegboy probably don't have to worry about players like me much...

edit: update, something I can live with

Ended up with 1,021, 580. I'm not sure why there is a 1 in the 100th million unit. I'm guessing it's a glitch and turned over when I got a million. I didn't notice until I took the pic. Not sure if anyone else knows anything about this. I'm guess they didn't really intend for anyone even to get a million as the game is the same after the 2nd run. I can assure you that my score is not 101, 021, 580, but rather 1, 021, 580. Honestly, I think a seasoned player at this game could play forever if they took their time.

Anyway, I've put in 2 attempts thus-far and have yet to get past 45K (yes, I suck at this game). Still working at it, want to be able to post a semi-respectable first score
Just don't forget to pause as you die, or get the pic before you die

Hopefully sooner rather than later, the Castlevania leaderboard is looking a little Spartan

I've seen the 100-millions digit glitch before when I was with TG (actually watched the video of the record 1.5M run). Happens every time you get a million points.

Thank you. So the only rules are you play until you die 5 times? I think I could definitely challenge that score, however, I don't know if I'd want to play the game 7 or 8 times through. Also, the last level with the falling stairs still gives me trouble from time to time due to the not so great controls and potential issues with lag.

Yup, 5 deaths and you're done.  Otherwise, once you get really good, you could loop the game forever.

Not saying it was the best decision ever, but TG put the 5-man rule on a lot of games (particularly platformers).  It was the only way we could think of to make certain games interesting enough for competition (ex: most Mario games).

And boy, do I hate that falling stairs level!

Same here. As far as I'm concerned, that's the toughest stage in the entire game.

Bump. Halfway through the month almost, let's get some scores. Beating the crappy scores like mine takes all of 20 minutes

Very cool to see someone starting up SNES contests after all these years. That's a solid lineup of games and I'll hopefully be posting some scores since I have most of those games. Really excited for the Super Empire Strikes Backs contest, as that was one of the first SNES games I got as a kid. I used to be able to no-death the game on Jedi mode like it was nobody's business. Nowadays, I probably wouldn't be able to do that

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

"Wait...Bimmy and Jimmy??  How'd they make a mistake like this!?  Bimmy isn't even a real name!"

Beware the Bimmy Marsh!
