Looking at the latest ezine (thanks dan!) i notice alot of games lost a bit of value. i've also noticed a lot of cl ads selling nes games (most of the time for a ridiculous price, but nonetheless). i'm just curious as to see if anyone else has noticed this and if you believe, like me, that nes is on its way out.

i think in the upcoming years  we will see alot more interest in the snes and n64/ ps1 as late teens like me get older and start to revisit their childhood. i rarely played nes as a kid, and the snes and n64 were two systems i grew up on. i guess i don't feel nostalgia because it was not even 10 years ago, but i think many other like myself will revisit these consoles as we get older.

just curious on your opinions.

what im saying might be blasphemy to some of you guys, but it just got me thinking

To be exact, 333 games lost value and 111 games gained.

The price of an entire collection is down 10% from last guide.

Last year, to put things in perspective, there was almost no net change for these months.

Who is to say why, but there's definitely been a short-term correction this summer. I wonder if people are just playing these games on their iPhones instead of with real hardware anymore

Although I need to make a separate point, that short-term corrections by no means indicates that anything is going out of style. Keep an eye out, this market definitely goes through strong cycles.

Well, to me, thats a great sign! I have hated the fact that there are all of these people cashing in with all of the stupid SE crap. Maybe things are just returning to normal

10%!! thats an insane amount. its most likely just unlucky month but if this keeps up, the tides are definitely changing. might be interesting to monitor this and see what happens in the upcoming months.

Thanks for the numbers Dan.  3 to 1 is less then I would have thought..

The losing 10% number, who does that really effect?  Hell if you're a collector, isn't that good news?  It just got cheaper to get a loose set. That's a plus in my book.

Right, and the important thing to remember is that the 10% is across mainly common and uncommon games. There haven't been recent sales of the big boys to adjust their values (Except Cheetahmen which gained). We've seen fluctuations of over 10% in months where there were big jumps, Panesians got popular for a while two years ago and were going nuts and SE of course when that sealed thing hit.

Exactly Paul, as a collector (rather than an investor and random pop culture follower who is following along a trend) I am pleased to see the trend.

Thanks for the referral to this thread Dan

Yeah, those are insane numbers. Comes as a bummer to me because all school year long I had accumulated duplicates and undesireables from buying up lots and I didn't have time to sell anything because of school. Now that I have time for the selling process the market has decreased. I'm a patient guy though, let's hope it's only temporary!

I am all about the prices coming down. I don't see why so many people pay so much for some of the games. Alot of games can always be had on ebay and still always go high. I remember when games like bonks and power blade 2 use to end for $10 or less but then the buy it now thing on ebay came along and it ruined everything I think. If it wasn't for me starting early in my collecting a little over 10 years ago, I wouldn't even bother with it now.

I guess it is time for all of the video game investors to freak out and sell their NES stock.

Just made a thread in NANews forum about this. Thought that is where we discussed the e-zine. O'well, either way, you are not the only one that noticed. Very interesting

Yeah, all the red freaked me out a bit, especially now that I'm trying resell more often. The more I thought about it though, it's not so bad - prices will come down for us to buy things, too! I wonder, as others have, if the digital downloads of games have brought the prices down some. No matter the accessibility or whatever, I would still rather have the original system and physical software. Where's the sense of accomplishment in an all-digital collection on a hard drive? And I also agree with the idea of being a collector instead of an investor. Investing is what the stock market is for.

Me too, I don't care if they go down in value now, while I still have less than 100 games!

Well wouldn't the summer slump have something to do with the 10% decrease as well? I would think that if we compared this month's prices with next January's prices, the January prices would be up 20% from this month.

even if they go low for a while they will eventually go back up in value if not higher, values tend to fluctuate and if it gets to the point no one buys then people may start throwing out games and prices start to rise for the few that do want to buy, etc etc.

It seems to me that the Summer theory isnt as crucial to the NES sector (as opposed to current gen stuff anyway) since it is kinda a niche market, and the collectors are still gonna collect. Or am I off base here?

It's definitely a buyer's market right now - most of the retro stores around me are low on inventory.

Hmmm, well that's interesting. I wasn't even around Nintendo stuff this time last year, so I was just making an assumption, but I'm pretty sure that there was a summer.

I noticed the red very quickly as well.

Not sure of all of the factors, but NES games definitely cycle through prices. Nothing to freak out about at all. Some of the crazier high prices we have had lately might have to do with the drop.

It's summer, and there is a slump, there was no summer slump last year, because there was no slump in the summer,

The same as there was no flood two years ago, this time of year in my part of the country, but there was a flood last year, and just so happens it is flooding right now.   (oddly enough it doesn't flood in the winter time)

Trends mean nothing, but many saw it comming is all, I would suspect that sales will pick up in the winter, if we live to see it, but who knows, we could see a winter slump also

Not saying cause is effect or vice versa, just there is a slump is all, as Dangevins data is showing us quite clearly
