Does anyone here on N/A have a 3D printer or knows somewhere/someone who can do 3d printing?

Unless you are incredibly poor, shapeways.com is good. Instant pricing from your model, relatively low cost, and higher quality than most of the home machines.

I second Shapeways.com it's a great site and relatively inexpensive. Plus you can print in METAL!

Have anyone tried making really cool custom cart shells for any Nintendo-systems with a 3D printer? Would be really cool to have a shell with some texture on perhaps repros, new releases or replacement carts. Should be doable but how much does these things cost? I have no knowledge about 3D printing whatsoever.

I can not speak to the quality of shapeways.com, but the the local microcenter has maker bots and bunnyboy's cases are way better. We are talking the difference between prototype and production quality.

I suspect shapeways does the post-processing for you (i.e. cleaning up the machining step of the print-table with an acetone bath)  whereas you are getting a raw product from Microcenter.

Shapeways machines are far better than any makerbot too. Theirs are real industrial printers with much smaller features than the "toothpaste squeezers". Still doesn't come close to an injection mold or even a homemade silicone mold unless you want the texture tho. This is the kind of stair stepping you get on a curved surface with good machines of a few years ago: http://sealiecomputing.com/images...

Yes, there is a difference in step size between high and low grade machines.

But I have samples from Stratasys, and without post-processing, they would still be pretty awful.
