No nose dive tackling will be allowed for this contest. I'm going to make a change to the tiebreaker rule as well so that the tiebreaker will be rushing yards instead of passing yards. It will give people more of an incentive to use rushing plays.

@ SONIKtheHEDGEHOG: How did you manage to prevent the Bills' QB from making any passes? If you used the tackling glitch, the 97-0 score won't be allowed.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

No stating the qb (and the whole team) can be done without the glitch as I've done it a handful of times but each time I did it involved me playing with a far superior team (SF) against a far inferior team (TB,GB,NE) who had several key players in bad condition....especially if it was the QB and RB. You can also recover a lot of onside kicks too..which I usually did in these cases.

This matchup is pretty frustrating. Steve Wonder is a more accurate passer than Mark Rypien.

yeah, alot has to do with some luck with this game. I had triple coverage on Andre Reed and couldn't intercept and then I had 1x1 coverage with Walton and has able to intercept. Plus, I don't know the randomness of fumbles (I I had only one but in the past I've had about 3 or so). I usually go for the play action play (bottom play 2nd from the left) for my big plays to Art Monk. Alot of hate from the Redskins but I used to use them since Baltimore never really had a team until '96 (finally). I know their playbook isn't explosive as say SF but its still decent with a couple of good running plays and a nice draw play for some quick goal line yards or even a good 2nd down option. Granted, Mark Rypien isn't the best by all means (I had a wide open Gary Clark and he overthrew him with noone covering). Also, I didn't know about this nose dive tackle (I always use CB Walton on Def).

Love this game. I will be trying to submit some scores this week (this would be my first weekly contest ever)! Can't say I have ever played with Washington, but I know I hate playing against the Bills. Tackling Thomas is like trying to tackle a semi.

I have never heard of it either, and I play it all of the time. I had to youtube it.

ok, I wasn't sure if the nose tackle sack was considered the "glitch". I have certainly known about that and used it against certain teams. Thanks!

Spent all night playing because don't know if I'll have any time the rest of the week.

Man, I hate Rypien so much that I straight rush Byner for 360+ a game every time. He was like 0-5 or 6 this game. 3 or 4 of those he lead the guy into the stands with terrible passes. Problem is this takes a lot of time off the clock. But, I found this also keeps the ball out of cheeseballer Thomas and Reed's hands.

If this game shows up next year, please pick a different team instead of Washington. 7/8 passes didn't even get near the wide open receiver. I do like the challenge of containing Thomas though. Thanks for putting all of this together.

Lol,I seriously considered doing the exact same thing but I figured Rypien's got to have a decent game every once in a while,so I stuck with passing mostly.

42-6.  Managed to hold them to 2 field goals. Not much of an upgrade from the 35 I had last time.

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the weekly contests!  Are you guys ready for some football?  You better be because this week's game is going to be an NES football classic and a first time game for the weekly contests.  Get ready for some Tecmo Super Bowl!  Here are the rules:

  • 1 player only
  • Play a Preseason game.  You must play a complete game
  • Select Washington as your team
  • Select Buffalo as the computer’s team
  • You must play with the default rosters for each team.  You may not swap out any players on either team.  There may not be any injured players on either team prior to the start of the game (If a player is injured in Regular Season mode, he will be injured in Preseason mode)
  • You may not change any of the plays or create your own.  You must use the default plays given to you at the start of the game
  • Nose dive tackling is not allowed.  Anyone suspected of using it will have their score disqualified
  • Take you picture on the final results screen (the screen that shows all the game stats)
  • Your score will be the differential between your score and the computer’s score
  • Ex: You 35 CPU 14 = score of 21
  • Ex: You 14 CPU 35 = score of -21
  • In the event of a tie, the greater number of rushing yards will break the tie
  • Greatest differential between your score and the computer wins.  A positive score takes preference over a negative score
  • GENRE: Sports

The contest ends Sunday, 3/2/14 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

cmon bimmy, we need an official definition on the nose dive tackling thing!

I made that rule off the recommendation of several other participants.  Anyone who is a Tecmo Super Bowl veteran, please give us more details.  Football isn't my favorite sport, so I don't play this one that often.

The video posted is a good visual explanation, but I must admit that I couldn't explain how to do it clearly right now being a jerk who hasn't really played Super Tecmo Bowl in my life.

It's a lineman glitch as a whole, but easiest to use with the NT. You can essentially take the NT and move him down and around the center and dive immediately, sacking or stopping the RB at handoff immediately. You can do it with any lineman, but it's a touch harder to pull off with the Ends.

It's beatable when it's Man vs Man, if you run all sweeps or play with a very fast QB out of shotgun. But, even then it's considered cheap and cheese, especially vs the CPU since they can't stop it. When I play with friends and/or in TSB tournaments, any use of a lineman is banned in general.

I don't understand how this game works, at all.

I figured out rushing offensive plays.
But I really don't get the defense, since I don't seem to be able to switch who I'm controlling after the play starts.

I feel like this is an old west John Wayne movie and I'm and just standing there trading punches with my opponent.
