Ok, I have gotten REALLY lucky with being able to pick up working Gamecubes for really, really cheap.

For example, just this year I purchased 2 working black Gamecubes and 1 working Platinum Gamcube for about $4...total, for all three. Yes, $4 TOTAL.

Now, I have resold complete Gamecubes many times. And incomplete Gamecubes I have pieced together I save or sell. But I currently have a couple extras with nothing. But they do work. They just need cords and controllers.

What can I do with them? They'd make nice bookends (or gameends). And then could be used if I find the cords and controllers. The lunchbox thing is funny but is totally impracticle, and it also renders it unusable in the future.

What are some other--realistic--ideas?

What are some ideas:
--that would keep the GC useable in the future
--or ideas that would wreck it. I will do this if they are great ideas.

You can make a little plant pot out one of them with little pikmen type of flowers growing out of it.

If you have a fish tank?...Gut the system and make it open in the fish tank with air bubbles and close, like a treasure chest. That's all I got, lol

You could take out the insides and make a tissue dispenser, maybe?

haha

That's actually a very practical use. I will seriously consider that.

Maybe try your hand in custom painting some of the casings, a Zelda themed one would be awesome.

Speakers maybe? I remember reading a DIY article a while back about turning cereal boxes into speakers. If you can use those I don't see why you can't use two Gamecubes.

Edit-Found a guy who did this:

His video recording abilities are toilet-worthy but the concept is there.

You could always try to intergrate one into your car with a small flatscreen for on the go play, or you could build a giant coffee table one and use the internals to make it functional like the NES some guy made.

Add in a bunch of mirrors to the lid (like a disco ball), and a few laser pointers from the CD area and BOOM - instant dance party box

I like the idea of painting them and selling them as customs. If they are totally trashed then the other ideas work but working units should be kept working.

The ones that don't can be stripped down to spare parts and used in aquariums.

I like the bookshelf idea the best. It still allows them to be sold when the time comes.

Are there any cool mods or hacks that you can do to a gamecube and preserve/better their functionality?

Still, I'm sure they will go up in price in the future. Probably not a lot, but I'm sure demand will be there somewhat. I don't think folks have embraced the gamecube yet, but looking at the prices of some of the titles, things are coming around.
