Hi folks, let's beat every N64 game in 2018! I'm not RetroMichel, but I love N64 and I'm willing to keep the thread and leaderboard updated for the year. I've gathered info from previous years' threads, (with a little help) and I like the idea of using past completions as a measure of how hard/un-fun a game is to beat. I'm toning the scoring down a bit, so that each game is worth at least 1 point, plus a half-point for every year that game was unbeaten since 2012. That makes a range of 1 to 4 points per game. Last year's thread had some completion requirements for a few games, presumably the more questionable ones. I think we ought to fill in requirements for every game, so that everyone is on the same page. I'll do some research here and there to slowly fill the list in, but anyone is welcome to offer their own insight into these requirements. Past threads:

I beat starfox 64 earlier this year already

well then you are dominating the leaderboard.

I beat Yoshi's Story earlier this year (Beat the lowest levels in December, and revisited in the new year to beat the harder levels).

Is that all we need to do, say we beat a game, and it's considered done? Shouldn't a pic of the end screen at the very least be a prerequisite?

I personally think it should be, as I have stated in the Switch thread. That doesn't seem to be required in the rest of these threads though (see the NES thread especially, they just say "Game X is done."). 

Sadly I can't go back in time and take a photo of the ending for Yoshi's Story, but I do plan on beating the rest of the levels later on anyway, so I could always call it unbeaten until then if it's a problem.
 

Well, if you started the clear in December I don't think it counts until then either way.  As far as I know the only thread that has conditions for allowing games to be started in a previous year is the green titles in the SNES thread

As for pics, that's just kind of the precedent.  I myself did photos for most of my 300+ clears, but it starts getting old.  Does anyone really need to see a 5th picture of the Madden 94 trophy?

I'd definitely encourage pics of rarely or never been beaten games though
 

I dunno if you're familiar with Yoshi's Story specifically, but I did a full clear of the game this year. Think Star Fox - it has paths through the game. On my first playthrough last year I did all the easiest levels. Then in January I played from start to finish again, this time going through harder levels. I went from the beginning to the end credits all in one sitting.

I don't believe there are any specific rules for Yoshi's Story, so I assume that what I did counts as a clear of the game.

To my knowledge you don't get a better ending if you do harder levels, so any path may as well count.

As for requiring pictures, it's fun to see them all but they don't really prove that you beat the game. And if someone says they beat Yoshi's Story, I don't have any reason to doubt them. I guess it's a little different for harder or uncommon games. Maybe we can just track how many photos everyone has uploaded and report it on the leaderboard? Offer more points if there's a picture?

Encouraging people to post pictures of games that hasn't been beaten before is a nice thing to do.
Otherwise, it just gets tiresome to post picture after picture of an ending everyone has seen already.

For me it's not tiring in the slightest. It's a part of the experience. Also, I actually save all the photos I take and store them in folders by year, so I can look back and see what I played on a per year basis through photos of the endings. It's a fun way to reminisce.

I don't mind posting pictures, and like Gloves I enjoy having them to remind me of past experiences. The biggest thing is documenting the endings of those games that no one has beaten yet -- there are a bunch in the SNES thread that are practically unique on the Internet.

The only 2 games I've beaten this year so far are Superman 64 and Mortal Kombat Mythologies. Yes I know a great year so far. I actually recorded Sub-Zero on my YouTube channel just to show a friend of mine I wasn't kidding when I said I beat it. I've actually beat it 3 times now, it's not so hard.

I agree that pictures are fun and should be encouraged but not necessary. I take pictures whenever I can but if it's a game I've beat numerous times or a game I didn't really care for or has a lame win screen I'm not too inclined to take one.

I probably won't be posting many games beaten here. The 64 has always been more for the multiplayer aspect then single player campaigns. I pull it out for Mario party, Mario kart and Diddy Kong Racing but not too much else. Only reason I beat star fox was I picked it up in a lot of games and while checking to see if everything worked I just played through to the end. Doesn't take long to clear that one.

Beat Castlevania 64 on the 1st. Got the bad ending, then reloaded my save to get the good ending (thought I needed to blow all of my Sun/Moon cards at the end for the optional boss fight):

I'm also a proponent of the pictures included with our clears, even though I'm not saying we should disqualify anyone otherwise, either. It's fun to see the pics; I'm like Gloves--I like to take them for my records, and I like to see others. 

Super Smash Bros. is done. My favorite game of all time. Had to do it. Very Hard clear with Mario. Not gonna lie; I had to continue once after some extreme bullshit fighting Metal Mario and the Fighting Polygon Team. But there it is. 

I started playing Donkey Kong 64 a few days ago. I should be able to 101% it in about a week.

Nicely done, would you say that a Very Hard clear is required to call the game beaten?
