I'd like to dust off my NES PowerPak and play some ROM hacks on my NES (or Analogue NT if it ever gets here) but there are a bunch of hacks out there for the big series and I don't know which ones are the best that I should be playing.  I've heard a lot of people say The Legend of Zelda: Outlands is the best hack for Zelda, but what about Metroid and Castlevania?  And will all the Super Mario Bros. hacks out there is there a decent one that combines updated levels, graphics, and is not ridiculously difficult?  Are there hacks of lesser known series that I should check out.

Any recommendations?

If the hacks are decent, I'd even consider picking up the hack on cartridge.  I know there are a lot of places out there online selling repros and hacks anyone have suggestions on the best place to purchase some of these hacks.

Thanks.

The Legend of Link is the best Zelda hack out there by a country mile in my opinion. It's the most impressive NES hack I've seen to date. You can't put it on a Powerpak though due to its sheer size: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2...

Flashback used to sell a limited quantity of NES carts with this hack, but they're all sold out now. I doubt they'll make more of them. I think Clarky here on Nintendoage makes a Famicom cart version of the hack though: http://clarkycreations.com/index....

It should play just fine through that extra Famicom slot in your Nt.

Super Mario Bros 3 Mix is another hack you really should check out too. And unlike Legend of Link it'll work on your Powerpark:

Where were the new rules posted?  I missed that--I'm guessing others may have too

I hadn't really posted until recently and had a few things I figured I'd throw out there and see if anyone could help or had info, I just happened to see the note about new threads.

I guess the PowerPak (and N8 Everdrive) is lacking sufficient storage for the ROM.  That hack makes the ROM have 1MB of PRG and CHR.  I might have to pick up a copy from http://clarkycreations.com/....  It looks like an extensive hack of the game.

So for Zelda we got:

The Legend of Zelda: Outlands
The Legend of Link

For Super Mario Bros. we got:

Super Mario Bros. 3 Mix

What about Castlevania and Metroid?

I also own a SNES PowerPak, so I would be interested in hacks of the 16-bit versions of these series too.
