And I assume that we will definitely be doing the 1 life rule with this one too, otherwise I'm sure there'd be a few of us rolling the score over.

I am personally repulsive for another racking type gameplay. Ninja Gaiden was so full of it, feels like an overtime to me right now.

But this one doesn't have to be played the same, since it loops back to the beginning again, sure it gets harder, but still, at least it don't end completely, so plenty of opportunity to get the score maxed out.

I've beaten this one a couple times without dying, also have reset the score, but not both in one game, but again, I'm not one for sitting still in games, always constant forward progression. What's going to be difficult about this one is actually getting a pick of the highest score before it resets, but granted that I'm able to play it this week (I sure hope so) I'll be recording it anyway, may have to make sure that my name on the top of the tv can be seen in the vid too, just in case in miss the chance at taking that pic I can take a pic from the recording.

Well, at least this one has a timer, like Ninja Gaiden. That really cuts down on the camping/racking.

Gah...basically the same game as last week, only with horrible controls.

I agree with the 1 life rule as well, otherwise, as you said, someone would probably roll the score over easily.

I've rolled the score over in this game a few times over the years, so yeah, that's why it has to be 1 life rule, that should make things more difficult for me. Not sure how I'm going to be playing this one yet, I'm not one to sit in one place, but at least this one continuously loops so if I want to I can just keep going, but pulling off a no deather in both the 1st and 2nd quests in one game would be tough, and I would have to be able to do it a third time as well, and make it at least halfway through the second stage of the 4th quest before the score rolls over, that's a lot of room for messing up. Like with Ninja Gaiden, with the windmill shuriken, Boomerang is a scoring friend here, especially at the start of the 2nd quest and quests thereafter since there's more enemies and they come at you faster.

Question though, what if several of us manage to roll the score over, are we doing a first person to get it first thing, or keep playing and add up the totals of max score before it rolls with the score after it rolled?

^^^ That's how it usually is. First to roll the score wins.

Well then, if I feel up to it I'll just have to fire this one up late tonight and play the wee hours of the morning away. But someone else'll probably get this one before me.

I didn't hear any complaints. Okay, wait, at least one or two, but even two complaints isn't a lot.

That score rolling thing will handicap me here. I've not played seriously Castlevania for a long long time. The controls are not really forgiving in this game, I got to get used to it first.

Just so long as it's not another slash-em game next week, I'll be fine with it...
Maybe one of these weeks we could have a vote on the game.

What's going to be difficult is actually getting a pic of the score right before it rolls over, probably going to have to pause it a few times, taking pics, as it gets near, just to be on the safe side, that is if I don't forget, which could happen.

I like the voting idea as well. Nesrulers could propose a few games selection and then we vote. Not a bad idea at all.

The game isn't bad, just not the best option for a high score contest is all. Not that it's your fault, im sure its hard picking 'good' high score games to play every week. I can't even think of any myself, so

Maybe we should start a thread someday to discuss about the next year contest. I think we could come up with a few ideas, and change a few things to make the contest even cooler and bring more participation. I thought about a few propositions myself in the last days, I'm sure a lot of you buddies might have good suggestions to throw in.

I love Castlevania, favorite game on the NES, been looking to play this one again, get a video up for it again.

There are hundreds of nes games with score in them. I'm just surprised at how many of the older style arcade types have been ignored.

Take it as a compliment Jeremy!

More people are getting interested in the contest, their expectations are getting higher, that's good sign. People like the contest, and I'm sure next year more people will chime in to participate, and battle for the high spots on the leaderboard.

Done and done. I flipped the score during the third quest.

I don't have much to say about this game. I one-lifed it like two weeks ago, so I still had everything fresh in my mind, which actually made it really pretty boring.

Anyways, here's the before picture and the after picture (featuring my favorite number!)
