So, I'm fairly positive based on my own judgement that this is a fake. No way could I have score such a deal, meaning I'll have ended up with a $400 fake

Could the fine members of NA please help me to authenticate this as Real or Fake? (Please explain why)

Thanks!

Points that stand out to me:

- End lable is out of place
- Front lable is blurry (See red text)
- PCB, I don't know what to check.

Well, the label is pretty blurry and low quality, and I believe Stadium Events is a CNROM game? It boots up as SE?

I have yet to hook up my NES to test it, and I've got to run out to my Hockey game now, but I will test it when I get home.

Looks like it might be Top Gun. This week has been super depressing with all this fake shit.

It's funny the end label is the only thing that looks legit. Stadium events it's on the edge of the real thing.

So I guess you this was not a Paypal deal that you could dispute? I'd never take a chance on an SE for any money these days without opening it. Bring a printout of a legit SE board, a security bit screwdriver and make 100% sure. $400 is such a strange price. You'd think they would either know what they have, or just think it is average sports garbage and be charging a buck or two.

So the story goes,

Pausing eBay one night I came across the following auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121288872...

Originally listed at $0.99 starting bid, I had to inquire about a B.I.N. I emailed the seller, assuming they though it was merely junk, offering $50 B.I.N. The seller replied that there was already another offer of $150, which I graciously matched. Once again, the seller replied that the originally buyer has increased their offer (Immediately after my offer, which should have raised flags). I replied that I would also increase my bid to $200, to which the seller, again, replied saying the other buyer has increased it once again. I replied with my final offer of $235 (Free shipping), calling the sellers bluff that there was no other buyer.

TLDR: We bickerd back and forth and agreed on $235 shipped.

There was no discussion as to whether or not this was real, because my assumption was that the seller *may* not know what they have and I'd rather not raise awareness. (Stupid me)

Long story short, I bought the item in question, and once there was a $50 duty fee attached, and converted to CDN, the total was close to $350 - $400 (I'm not doing math at this moment)

So, immediately I came to NA to ask for validation. I had a strange gut feeling the entire time that it was fake, but felt it was worth the gamble.

Not having discussed the legality of the item, does this hurt my chances of a PayPal claim in any way?

---

[Edit]
Also note, as everyone predicted, its simply Top Gun. Nothing more.

It's discouraging, and makes me not want to collect any more. This is the 3 time in the last 6 months or so something like this has happened. Way to many scammers ...

I wish i could afford to buy a copy outright, but $400 it alot more apealing then $4,000

Bring a small flathead.  If you need a security screwdriver, red flag #1.

Also to the OP- since it boots up as Top Gun, just file a claim that it's counterfeit (and don't mention that you opened it).

I've emailed the seller, not mentioning that it has been opened, and I'm waiting to hear what they say. Ideally, a full refund is in order, because the rest of the junk is completely useless to me otherwise. WTF would I need a calculator for?

I will wait for the sellers reply. He has some decent feedback, so we'll see. Otherwise its off to PayPal.

You think it's possible that the cart exterior is real? I personally don't think so because the label is so blurry. The Nintendo Seal is 100% illedgible.

Yeah, outside is also fake. Nothing should be blurry, the colors are off, and the label should be on straight. Somebody definitely put some thought into this one, but still pretty easy to tell.

That first picture raised flags for me. I've never seen a non-glossy NES label, even beat up ones still have the gloss. The way the white areas of the sticker look... almost gray... as if they used some crap quality paper. And the letters below the runners...

There are a few games that used the non-glossy label. George Forman KO Boxing and WWF King of the Ring come to mind. It's darn near impossible to find a decent label for those games because of the crap paper they used for those labels.

OP, you will get your money back. You have no worries since it was a Paypal payment. Definitely interested in seeing the seller's response. He will play dumb of course.

Below was the sellers lousy response.

What do you mean by not as described? The items were described as as is not tested. I put no guaranteed on any of those items as I have not tested nor have had an NES to test them. They are exactly as described since the wording states as is- not tested no guaranteed.

Guess the seller's about to get a $235 reality check.

Good luck.
