I don't remember many titles other than Tetris getting a port to the Gameboy. Most popular franchises like TMNT, Mario, Megaman, Castlevania, etc. got a whole new game.

Do you mean on the GBA? There were quite a few indeed. Gamefaqs would be able to help since they all start with the title Classic NES Series or Famicom Mini

Off the top of my head, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Cliffhanger, and WWF King of the Ring fit the bill. There are tons of others, especially toward the end of the NES lifespan.

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

Not all of them were. Some of them are same title, different game (ie Batman). That list needs tweaking. But it's a good start.

Exactly.  The list above is just a title lookup of NES titles that appear on GB.  But many of them are not the same game at all... list needs to be developed by someone with a lot of GB playing experience.

Mega Mans, for example, are completely different.  NES uses conventional numbering (2, 3, etc.) and GB is Roman numerals for this exact reason.

There is the Japanese-only released "Namco Gallery" series. Volume One has direct ports of Famicom titles Battle City, Mappy, and Namco Classic Golf. Galaga is also included but I'm not sure if it is a true port or not, it is the same version as the American GB release.

There are two other volumes in the series. I do not own either of the others, though, so I am not sure if the games on those are direct ports or not.

Interesting initial draft, JosephLeo. I would omit Donkey Kong (94) as it's an entirely new game and is based off the original arcade property. Mega Man V is another game where it's distinctly different from the NES original, which is one reason there is such interest in the game. Bionic Commando is a game where it takes aspects from both NES and arcade games and thus isn't so much a port or conversion but a remake so on those grounds I'd omit it.

Missing is Battle for Olympus which is a Europe exclusive but as I can tell is very much in the vein of a conversion from the NES original.

Yea that's a good start for a list. I'm sure there are games that are almost the same as the NES, like Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt, it's just that some of the games only share a link to the NES games in name only. They are totally different games otherwise.

Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle is actually a sequel to the NES game.

Why is the King James Bible on there?

Are you sure?  I thought the first game was identical, but the second was a GB exclusive...I could be mistaken though, I haven't played either all that much (and the GB game I haven't fired up since I was a teenager, and have never personally owned it).

Duck Tales I believe was identical between platforms as well, but again, it's been a while since I played the Game Boy version so I can't be 100% sure there.

Battletoads are two totally different games on NES and GB. I believe Ragnorak's World is basically the same as the NES version, though.

I just beat Felix the Cat on the gameboy this weekend out on my hammock, fun game but it was very short and easy. First try beat it in about 20 minutes. Is the NES version just as short and easy?

Mega Man V is a totally different game with original Robot Masters.

Double Dragon II is a totally different game, and in fact is actually just a re-skin of a Japanese Kunio game. Kunio is the series that brought us River City Ransom, but the Game Boy game was changed to Double Dragon in English

Bonk's Adventure is a totally different game

Cool World is a totally different game

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves should be on this list as I was able to follow an NES walkthrough of the game for the Game Boy version. They're the exact same, except that the A.I in the Game Boy version is even more stupid.

I'd also omit Tennis, since that's kind of an insult to the Game Boy version. It's kind of the same as the NES game, but a million times better.

Oh hey, I didn't know there was a Crazy Castle 1 for the Gameboy. It looks like a functional port of the NES game, so nevermind.

No doubt that list is full of holes. All I did was literally take the list of GB games and delete everything that I didn't think had an NES counterpart. Part 2 of that list involves me playing those games.

Add Side Pocket to the list! I'm actually using this list as a base to go off of when minimizing my games list on the NES Classic.

Gremlins 2 is also a totally different game on Game Boy. So is The Incredible Crash Dummies.

Missing on the list is The Battle of Olympus.

BTW, tThere's The Lion King where the NES is actually a (crappy) port of the Game Boy version, although it misses half of the levels.

If anyone still cares about this list, it should be noted that Breakthru! on Game Boy matches the Breakthru! on SNES, which is a puzzle game. Not to be confused with Breakthru (no exclamation) on NES, which is an action/adventure/shooting game.

Also Burgertime Deluxe on GB has different level layouts and different general feel to it than on NES. But it's still a Burgertime game. There are other GB games like this, but I'm not familiar enough with the NES counterparts to identify them right off.

I mentioned it in another thread but the only games I really remember being similar, or identical to their NES counterparts are Ducktales, Ducktales 2, Felix the Cat, Cliffhanger, Adventure Island, Adventure Island II, Alfred Chicken, Battletoads Double Dragon, Best of the Best, I THINK Bram Stokers Dracula, Burai Fighter, Castelian, Darkwing Duck, Hatris, Indiana Jones (UBISOFT), Jimmy Connors Tennis, I THINK Jungle Book, Lethal Weapon, Puglesys Scavenger Hunt, Qix, Snow Bros (Mostly, has extra levels), Waynes World.
