Just weighed a few 100% complete in box games. Below are the results.

Sega Genesis:
Mega Man Wily Wars - 6.3 ounces
Sonic 3 - 7.2 ounces
TMNT Hyperstone Hiest - 6.3 ounces

SNES:
Contra III - 6.7 ounces
Stunt Race FX - 8.3 ounces
Donkey Kong Country 2 - 6.7 ounces
Super Empire Strikes Back - 7. 1 ounces

Not sure if this helps :/

I really wish there was a way I could tell. I wanted to keep one of each for myself lol. And I don't want to open one as that will hurt the value. Dam

Did you try weighing them on a postal scale? That's your best bet. I posted the weight of an SNES copy above for comparison. Otherwise, I don't think you'll be able to tell.

Just saw you list them on eBay too, GL with your sales.

Looks like OP's auction. Same pictures and same count (17) as the OP claimed to have. $2500 is a ridiculous price, however, especially if they're all dinged in some fashion and especially since the listing says "could be either Genesis or SNES". I'm willing to bet they're all Genesis, especially if the OP weighed them all and has 3 open ones for comparison.

Either way, good luck with the sales, I guess.

Weighing different games isn't going to help anything. Use a postal scale to weigh 1 SNES CIB Maximum Carnage and 1 Genesis CIB Maximum Carnage.

That weight difference between the CIB sets will be the same as the weight difference between the special edition sets, since the book/pins/etc. are all the same.... Wait...

You clearly have an opened one in your pic above. Just weigh that, then weigh the others. If they weigh the same, they're Genesis, if not, they're SNES.

He did weigh them and they all weighed the same. Very misleading if that auction is his as he's not being honest

YES I just posted those for sale on eBay. I would never sell one for $2,500 to you guys. I just threw that up there to see what people throw over for offers. The sun faded thing I believe it just because of the light in my kitchen but would obviously notify any buyer if that's the one I ended up shipping. If people are only going to offer $400 max for one I'll just sit on them for 10 years lol. Feel free to send offers over if youd like

Sealed makes no difference in price? Since when does a sealed game give you no increase in value?

It's Genesis, and my estimate of maybe $500+ on Sealed was before you showed your hand of 17 sealed copies. Video game collecting, especially sealed, is EXTREMELY niche. Now that people know you have so many, they aren't going to be very motivated at all.

If you can get $400 for any of those, I'd take those offers as quick as they were received.

I saw a max carnage snes box set in very good shape end at auction around the $275 mark... Now factor in genesis has less demand I would say a cib genesis version is around $100-150 factor in sealed $200-$400 depending on buyer and motivation, and like jone said now people know there are 17 sealed copies the price may actually drop.

Or, like you said, sit on them for awhile and cross your fingers that Sega popularity grows in the coming years. Nobody's making you sell them now.

Wow, you weighed them, found out they were all genesis, then state they could be snes or genesis in your BIN. That's going to come around and screw you over.
