Score update for Tier 2. Oh Galaga, you're such a cruel mistress! ^>^

I showed up late and still haven't put the game in my NES. I'm finally actually sitting down to play this one, I hate to be that douche that takes a spot in the good tier and then doesn't even deliver, but Galaga is so not my kind of game...stay tuned tonight for the results of my first and only (exceddingly-embarrassing and point-and-laugh-worthy) run.

Better late than never, you might get a good run in. Good luck!

Also updated my score.  Still not high enough to feel safe though.  Gonna eat something, then back at it.  Couple hours left.

I know I've said it in the past, but again I really want to express my gratitude to Kevin and everyone else who makes these contests/tournaments possible. I haven't had a good week personally so I'm really happy to have this as a positive and fun distraction.

Anyway, on a lighter note, since I've never been good at Galaga or put a lot of time into it, I went by goals this week:

1)Beat the default high score
2)Get past six digits for my score.
3)Break 125K
4)Break 200K

Three out of four isn't bad I guess. I reached over 120K only twice this week and this run was my only one where I got past 125K. I'm going to try to keep playing until the deadline, but I feel good about my score either way. I did a lot better than I ever expected this week.

I just want to say great scores by all who eclipsed 200K this week and good luck to all the rest of the way until the deadline.

I didn't want to post a score until I hit my main goal of 200k and I finally did it tonight! I hope this is enough to make it through. It was a slog getting to grips with the game, but it was also a lot of fun.

Nice scores all round guys.

Looks like I've been bumped down to 6th. Not sure if I'll be able to get in any play time before the deadline,so if you can best my score Krunch you're in the semis. Go Krunch!

I think I got to level 6. But I was ONE guy away from getting to the next, so I was ready to flood more points in, I swear it...

...but damn that's a good game. I see why Mog used to play it so much all the time in chat for like weeks on end. It rewards smart shooting rather than fast tapping...and there's lots of ways to get points.

I wish I would have played more in the past few weeks, I missed some I was looking forward to playing, most of all Clu Clu Land which I consider a great hidden gem. Already pumped to start anew with you guys. There's nothing stopping any of us from helping to make the contest even better than it already is for next year! Thanks for the good times.

Well Kevin said he had to work an hour later tonight so you still have another 55 minutes to try to put up a better score if you'd like =)

Well that's a best I could muster as I didn't start playing till about an hour ago. This was the first time I've picked up a NES controller since my son was born but saying I confirmed I'd participate I wanted to make sure I'd at least put up a score even if it isn't good enoough to avoid elimination.

Best of luck the rest of the way everyone! Looking forward to rejoining you all in the weekly competitions when they resume.

i feel extremely proficient at galaga now...and i hope to play again in the all the contests

i love these things

i love that they make me pull out games that would otherwise probably just sit there, and that i get good at them (and great at some)

thanks so much to Kevin for doing this, and thanks to all of you for making it competitive while keeping it fun and fresh

well said matty J

i play the contests for the same reason, i get to put in a new game every week and it gives me a game to focus on instead of playing endless games of SMB, punch out, and tecmo bowl

thanks to kevin for the time donated to commission these contests

I started this week with not an ounce of Galaga skill in me, but now I can hit at least 150k each time. I felt ecstatic when I hit my high score, a feeling I rarely get from videogames nowadays. The same happened in a lot of the previous contests.

Thanks to Kevin, and everyone else involved here.

I've always been mediocre at video games and these competitions give me a chance to prove it. It is above all else, a lot of fun to get together and play games with you guys.

Agreed. Love that I am able to play more games which I normally wouldn't because of the contests. I appreciate all the work that is put into these contests!

Congratulations to everyone who advanced to Round 2. Krunch, smick, link463, hitmantommy, and Space Jockey will all be entered into a drawing at the end of the tournament for a prize Everyone did great in Round 1 and I look forward to seeing how everyone will do in Round 2 (Round 2 game being posted shortly).

I just want to say thank you for all the kind words, guys. I love hosting the weekly contests and I'm glad you all have a good time playing. Without all of you and those who didn't make it to the tournament, the contests would not be what they are today. I really enjoy seeing you all play every week and I love the brotherhood we have established by competing head-to-head every week. Thank you guys for making the weekly contests bigger and better every year As much as I love the tournaments, I can't wait for the weekly contests to resume again on February 2. I already have a list of games ready to go for 2014 and will get it posted in the near future. I hope to see you all again on February 2 But for now, let's keep the awesome tournament scores coming!

I want to echo the thanks to Bimmy for running the contests.  Prior to this summer I've spent years away from any gaming that didn't involve playing party games on the Wii with my kids.  I'm not a threat to the top of the leaderboard, but I've really enjoyed playing different games and the opportunity to take some time with each of them to improve my skills.  Mendel Palace stands out as my hidden gem of the year.  Looking forward to Feb 2!

Lowest score to make it into round two! Barely doing enough to scrape by, the story of my life.
