I picked this up in a lot earlier today from a guy down in McMinnville, and he told me that his friend's dad worked for a company that dealt with making Nintendo games, and he got this game from him a while back.

Do you think this mofo is legit?  I don't have another copy of Impossible Mission 2 to compare the board to.

Ah, I should have looked there in the first place! I also shouldn't have been so lazy and just scanned the board:

There are some differences in some of the numbers, but I don't know if it makes it special or not. The case is clear and it has S.E.I. embossed on it, so I'm pretty sure that's what it came in in the first place.

Yeah the contour looks like the SEI case. SEI was in Cali, a bunch of doctor investors iirc got together but didn't make it past this one release, pressure from NOA.

Problem is, IM2 was handed down from AVE, which in turn I think was ported from Epyx on the PC. So any "proto" would just really be like their own test cart, not any real developement that would have an early ROM or anything. But still great internal company history.

HAHAHAHA! Dude, you got yourself one sexy ass prototype! Congrats my man.

I've never seen a clear S.E.I. case, but I still have absolutely no doubt that the cart you have is a 100% legitimate prototype.

If you want it dumped (for free of course), or ever want to sell it, feel free to let me know. Color my jealous by the way.

The guy I picked it up from had just moved to Oregon from California about a year ago too. Even if it's not a prototype, that's cool, it's still a neat piece to have in my collection.

edit -  So it is a prototype?  Baller!  I've been thinking about buying one lately and I guess I just did earlier today.

I use the term prototype to refer to any cartridge that is in a pre-production phase.  If I had it in my hands I would certainly consider it a legitimate prototype.

Do you mind if I add you to the NES prototype list?

I was going to update the list today regardless, so I figured I'd ask.

Thanks Matt, you're the best! I was going to cross promote, but I didn't know if that was acceptable or not.
