12.99 is what THEY sell for. The money they give you is in () which aren't visible for most items.

Look at the first one, 1942. They give you $4 in cash, or $5 in trade, and sell it again for $9.99.

And that makes no sense. To pay store employees, ship to refurb centers, test and repair, pay people to test and repair, list online, pay to ship, customer service after the fact? For 4 dollars?

When you are doing 1M carts the price per cart is small. That $6 might get cut to $4, but the $20 trade in is still $18. Store employees are already being paid, most carts don't need repairs, someone doing cleaning/testing can do a cart a minute, listing online is all automated, shipping is paid by the customer.

I was just about to point this out. 9,999 is just a placeholder too, since.. This program is just in "test" markets..

Nice trade in values. But what are you going to trade them in for? Modern junk games that I couldn't care less about?

Might be interesting if you could trade in vintage games towards other vintage games.

As of right now. You can put it on a trade card that'll work like a gift card. That being said, they could restrict what works where. We just have to wait and see

If GameStop sucks in a lot of games and inflates the price even more, this could lead to the collecting crash I've been waiting for.

Though even with the high initial trade values, I doubt much stock will come their way because most of those games can be sold for cash at around those values, and most owners of those games are unlikey to want "trade credit" at GameStop.

Im enjoying the major freak out store owners are having after seeing the trade im values.

Most stores (at least on Texas) want to pay super low and sell super high. They cant adopt the small profit+high volume business model.

I am seeing post of "pay double than gamestop" and "pay GS tradein value in cash".

It seems to me that GS will do a lot of good and weed out bullshit stores an resellers.

Finally something good happening.

I expected the prices to be much higher. I think the discussion on Pat Contri's podcast was spot on as far as the business model and repercussions stand

It appears to be what I expected. Their prices are just about current "market value" and the trade value is about 50-60%. The cash value will be less of course. I don't think this model will bring a ton of retro into their stores.

Well I mean, you could always sell the gift card for like 80% of the value on giftcards.com

If you really had  enough stock to "abuse" this system and get a ton of credit, it's not too bad a cash out.

sounds interesting especially stores that have alot of slow moving stock you could always dump the slow moving stock and put it towards hot new releases and flip that quick at your store. Alot easier to sell 1 hot new release than 20 vintage games that have been sitting for a year.

As for their prices they aren't all that insane. They seem pretty on par with what I have been seeing at the reseller stores and flea markets lately. Plus their trade-in isn't all that bad either. Alot of the physical stores I know of only pay about 25% of what they sell the item for.

Updated and added the special LISTS that where posted on Reddit gamestop,
the special list are games that will be accepted, if the game is not there they will
be taken as generic or not accepted at all, also the list will be updated during the
trial run to accept other games eventually.

Since my store is retro only we dont have new stock on new systems so 95% of the trade ins we pay cash only so we offer 25%, we do offer 35% to 45% on high valued items. Gamestop trade in program would hurt us big if they do offer these prices, but then again I can also dump stock of consoles and accesories that are gathering dust back here (60+ NES/N64 consoles) for example.

Holy shit, over 10,000 views already. Is this the first place to have released this information?

I'm interested to see how this goes in the end.

This is hilarious, I did not know all these other game stores were so bad. I saw the trade in values, and with the exception of a few (Pokemon Snap, which they will inflate the price on so it will fix itself) we give more in trade and cash on all of these. We give 80% of market value trade in and minus off 25% for cash. here look http://therabbitholenc.com/trade...

This might kill off all my other local competition, but it won't hurt me. Who it is hurting is the customers because it looks like they are inflating a lot of prices, and as someone who cares about my community more than the dollar ... that saddens me.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but I believe the lack of high end games on their list is a strategy to try and limit the odds that they get someone selling reproduction games as legit i.e. Samson, F2, mm X2 and 3, Earthbound and many many more, just a thought.
