Just curious, do you care if your games are black label or Greatest Hits? Do you skip titles you want just because they're not black label? Why do you care? Does anybody collect only greatest hits? Do you just buy whatever and not give any shits? When organising do you go alphabetical regardless or separate the black label from the GH?

Let the OCD ensue!

It's something I never consciously notice until it's time to let something go (e.g. someone on here was looking for MM2 GB, and I was surprised to find mine was GH...)

I hate them. They display terribly and first print runs are much more collectable to me.

I tried adding a poll. Did it work? I don't see it

Absolutely despise them across all platforms.

So ugly to look at, especially ps1's ugly ass lime green.

I love them. I treat them as kind of a subset. The black label games get alphabetized and then I start with the GH and start them in alphabetical order. Makes the shelf display look a lot cleaner

I would prefer to get first run if at all possible but it hasn't stopped me from collecting them. Unless I really want the game I prefer to pay a few bucks less for greatest hits. My collection is only a couple hundred big though so anything to get it growing. It may change in time.

I've always wanted to know why we as collector's hate these? Is it because of OCD or is it really because we think they will be worth more in the future?

I used to hate greatest hits, but I really dont care now. Its the same game for the most part.

Now that being said, game of the year editions are much better than original print runs since you get bug fixes, tons more content, and a cheaper price.

that's partially why I started the thread. Personally I prefer greatest hits and I know I'm in the vast minority. They often have bug fixes, new controls etc. And if you think about it shouldnt they be rarer? Considering that you'd need a lot of units to sell, which would be black label, to warrant a greatest hits release?

I always prefer the black label release, but it I don't own the game and come across a greatest hits I have no problem buying it. I have the game to play, and I resell or give the greatest gifts copy to a friend when I come across a black label.

I despise all PC and greatest hits releases with one exception... SNES Zelda LTTP. I think that box looks better than the original for some odd reason.

Black label, if at all possible. I've got a handful of GH across several platforms.

I honestly don't really care. If I buy a game for the purposes of playing it, I'm going to take what's in front of me.

I will say, when it comes to my xBox set, I (and a lot of other XB collectors) consider the PH series to be variants, so I grab those in addition to my black labels.

Greatest hits? More like great ass tits!

Seriously, I don't care. But for some reason my PS2 collection has no greatest hits titles.

Well played good sir! Yeah I never cared. My Xbox collection happens to have no platinums by complete accident as well

I used to not care, but I find myself purposefully ignoring them as much as I can, now. The golden border on N64 boxes, and the big tacky ribbon... it's just too much.

Don't get me started on that lime green shit.

Good call! Probably because of all the gold lettering, which was consistent with all Zelda packaging. I'm still pissed that didn't come in a gold cartridge. I'll never forget that disappointment.

Always cared. Black is classier. In the case of disc based, PS1 especially, the quality of the package seems to be lesser than the original print.

Eh, don't really care but God bless those collectors who do care. I've gotten good deals on GH/PC games because picky collectors held their nose up to them.

My son... gives me Helpful Nintendo Hints that are far too complex for the adult mind to comprehend. Here's a verbatim example: "OK, there's Ganon and miniature Ganon and there's these things like jelly beans and the miniature Ganon is more powerfuller, because when you touch him the flying eagles come down and the octopus shoots red rocks and the swamp takes longer." And the hell of it is, I know he's right. - Dave Barry

Yeah, I don't really care all that much unless it's a game I really love, but even then, I usually don't mind. I can think of one example of a second wave that I actually like a lot: the gray Zelda carts for NES. Not sure why, but I love those. My CIBs of Zelda 1 and 2 are the million seller ones, and I actively sought those out. I guess that's one of the flipside examples rarity-wise? I know there are still tons of them out there, but I've actually never seen either gray cart at shops, flea markets, etc. Only online.

If I'm hunting for a game I definitely prefer it black label. If I come across a greatest hits for a great deal or in a lot I'll snatch that up. I place them right next to or where a bl should be in my collection. I'm much more picky for ps1. If it's a ps2 game I buy whatever I find cheaper.
