Yeah, proper, early use of the CMs seems to be key for an easier time at stage 4 and 5.

Did he really play 15 hours in one sitting? Thats dedication. I probably never played it much more than an hour a session.

It looks like he did. I would like to see if anyone can watch the last hour of playtime the strat he did. It looks like for the first room he took the CM and went to room 3 (in my map) and was able to clear it really quickly (until he fucked up royally and had the virus all in the room again haha) but we could try his strat and see how that turned out.

Ok out of boredom im going to write out what TMR did (generally):

- Took the blue 0, went to room 8
- Put the blue 0 over the Virus spitter, grabbed red 1 (super gun). Clear room 8
- Went to room 6. Grabbed purple 1 (super gun that always stays). Cleared room 6
- Went to room 5 (there was an outbreak). Cleared room 5
- Went to room 2, cleared it.
- Went to room 1 (there was a flashing outbreak). Cleared it.

(after attending to some outbreaks)

- Went to room 4, cleared it.
- (After going between the 2 rooms left)
- Went to room 4, grabbed the green 1.
- Went to room 3, used the green 1 in between the virus spitters.
- Went to room 2, grabbed the green 0.
- Went to room 7, used the green 0 in the bottom left corner (where he entered).

Then basically went back again between the rest of the 2 rooms eventually clearing Room 7 after grabbing a red 0 (super gun).
- Grabbed the blue 1 from room 7 after clearing it, then went to room 3 and used it in the room, got back the super gun and cleared it.

I think this is a good opportunity to also see what rooms can be cleared with what CM.

There are 4 Counter Measures
There are 3 rooms that have Virus Spitters (usually these need CMs, and room 3 has 2 of them)
There are 5 rooms that dont need them with skill (Room 4 being the easiest).

When TMR used the blue 0 in room 3 between the Virus Spitters he almost cleared out the room with the normal gun in seconds. This would prob be the hardest room because it is constantly pumping out virus.

Just by looking at the map, id like to try this (in some order)

Blue 0 in room 3 (between the Virus spitters)
Blue 1 in room 8 (on top of the virus spitter)
Green 1 in room 6 (ontop of the virus spitter)

Room 4 can be cleared easily compared to the rest of the rooms.
Room 5 has really tight corridors which is pretty easy with the Super Gun

Leaving rooms 1, 2 and 7 as the hardest rooms to do.

EDIT.  Ok im going to try this:

- Start in room 1, take blue 0.
- Go to room 3, use blue 0 between VSs, clear it.
- Go to room 4, clear it, take green 1
- Go to room 6 (room 4, to 3, to 2, to 5, to 7, to 6) use green 1 on Virus Spitter, clear room, Take super gun
- Go to room 7 (clear room?), take blue 1
- Go to room 8, use CM on virus spitter, clear room.

This would leave room 1, 2 and 5 open.

Update. I actually did pretty well with that strat. I FUCKING HATE using emulators because they're so stiff but I felt I could have beaten level 5 in one try. I was able to clear all the rooms up to room 8, having to go back just to touch up rooms that had outbreaks. If someone else would test this out and tweak it that would be bully.

Ok im going revise it a little, someone test this out:

- Start in room 1, take blue 0.
- Go to room 3, use blue 0 between VSs, clear it.
- Go to room 4, clear it, take green 1
- Go to room 2, use the green 1 on the bottom, clear room. Grab green 0
- Go to room 6 (room 2 to 5, to 7, to 6) use green 0 on Virus Spitter, clear room, Take super gun
- Go to room 7 (clear room?), take blue 1
- Go to room 8, use blue 1 on virus spitter, clear room.

This would leave room 1, 2 and 5 open.

EDIT.  I didnt like this strat too much.  But here are the break out details for level 5:

First breakout approx 5:35is seconds, then every minute there after.

Ok so im at level 5 of the game. I hate level 4 so much so I looked at TMRs way of beating 4 and I pretty much did it, with some modifications at the end. If you take too long on the first couple of rooms its going to be really hard and the outbreaks will be hard to manage. So beating the first 2 rooms quickly is very important

Clear Room 1
Go up right to room 3, grab blue 1, put blue 1 on bottom virus spitter
Go left to room 2, clear room, grab green 0
Go to room 4, put green 0 on bottom virus spitter, do a little damage,
Go to room 7, clear room,
Go to room 6, use green 1 on virus spitter, clean room
Go to room 5, clear it, grab blue 0
Go to room 4, use blue 0 on top virus, clear room

Oh. My. God!

I finally did it. I've been playing since August but last night I had my trusty herpes and ebola stuffed animals to help me take down The Mutant Virus.

Well done. That game is no easy feat! However... I disagree with your 90% luck and 10% strategy comment. This is by far my favorite game.I played and beat this game on a toaster with a cart. The strategy comes into play with the cm’s and the picking up and dropping of the super guns depending on your life and what room you’re going into. Anyways, congrats.
Also, love your podcast. I’m a few episodes behind right now due to a lost headphone. But I’m back in the game and will catch up today.

My thoughts on the strategy vs luck boils down to once I knew the strategy to beat levels 4 and 5 it seemed like using the same CMs in the same spot produced different results. It was like sometimes the game was on easy mode and sometimes hard mode. But, this is coming from a guy who hasn't spent a whole lot of time with the game, so my opinion doens't mean much, lol.

Glad you are enjoying the podcast, we are slowly gaining listeners but it is hard because we bounce around between so many topics. If you have any suggestions for topics or how to make it better definitely let me know!
