Ratings key:
10 - One of your very favorite artists of all time.
9 - Killer fucking band.  Or artist.
8 - Great sound, great songs, great albums.
7 - Very good, but not quite great.
6 - Pretty good.  More than a few songs you like.  You'd entertain the thought of seeing them live if they were in the area.  Or still alive.
5 - They're okay, but maybe not something you'll go out of your way to listen to.
4 - Meh.  There may be a song or two, or an album that you dig, but you'd rather listen to other stuff.
3 - Not very good.  You will more likely than not turn the station if they come on the radio.
2 - Not your cup of tea at all.  Some people like this, but you are not one of them.
1 - Horrible in every way.
0 - In the running for worst artist/musician of all time.  You would rather take a cheese grater to your face than listen to this.

7.84 - Michael Jackson
7.78 - Electric Light Orchestra
7.50 - Alice in Chains
7.23 - Earth, Wind & Fire
7.16 - Faith No More

I rated them higher because there are some albums I like.

I wish I could vote on just one era.

And the snare sound on st. Anger makes me believe Lars is and always will be a fucking troll.

Vote pending... this is a tough one.

10. Kill 'em All, Lightning, Puppets, and Justice are all perfect albums. From Black on there are good songs but they never reach the same level as their thrash beginnings.

Your song choices are a little weak. Here are a few standouts.

The first time I had heard them was in 4th grade music class. My childhood best  friend was jamming out to them and handed me his headset and said "you might like this". It was the song "Of Wolf and Man", and while far from my favorite jam by them, it led me on the path of metal. Until my mid 20's, no other band existed. Except the Beach Boys.

Gave them a 9, though younger me would have given them a 10.

These guys define an entire genre in terms of what the mainstream knows about it.
Whether you like them or not, that counts for something.

They had some really great albums, even if not my favorite type of music, but they also had a fair share of turds.

7, would be much higher if not for their newer albums. Also should have kept Dave Mustaine, I like MegaDeth much better.

Sure, they have had a few less than stellar albums but they have more classic songs than just about any other band in this genre and even though Dave Mustaine is really the godfather of thrash you can't deny that Metallica is who brought it into the mainstream. I saw them live in March for the 2nd time and even in their 50's they put on a great show. There aren't many bands who have songs that satisfy metal heads needs and also songs that your mom likes (Nothing Else Matters and Unforgiven)

Definite 10/10

I try to seperate artists music from their personal lives.  I mean I still love Michael Jackson's music but what he "allegedly" did in his personal life was fucked up.

Really hard to vote on this one.

Kill Em All is one of my favorite albums ever, but I honestly think it's due largely to Mustaine's writing.
Everything with Cliff is excellent.
Hate the black album.
I honestly really enjoy Load and Reload though they threw away their thrash and became something entirely different and more mainstream.
St. Anger is an absolute abomination.
Couldn't get into Death Magnetic.
Hardwired was an excellent return to form.

But...
Lulu happened too so...

8 from me dog.

I'm the opposite. I like the Black Album, and I really like Load. And I thought some things off of Reload were really good, too. I'm in the minority, I know. But the early thrash albums I don't listen to them much anymore, and even back in the day I had to be in a certain mood to spin them.

I listen to Load/Reload quite a bit, but rarely Black. The better songs on Black album for me are My Friend of Misery, Struggle Within and God That Failed. If you haven’t heard them the Demo versions of the Load/Reload songs are better than what we got on the albums. Check out Fan Can 3.
