Crap I used to be able to roll this game over. My brother is mailing me his copy he kept all these years (has the book too which is cool) but it won't be for another week or more. Emulation is allowed right?

Ahh save states are for pussies. I hated then years ago when people started to add them, refused outright to ever use or test them out (same goes with Wii quicksaves, I reset the titles.)

It's been a couple months since I did my last no-death run of this game... Sure, I'll give it shot.

I dunno what I'll post. I'm limited to using a keyboard and knowledge of something I haven't touched in over a decade.

The problem is gonna be taking a picture of the screen, I don't have a camera or anything, but I'm going to try to use my webcam.

Well that's the first time I tried it, 121050, nailed Reptile w/out a problem, but the collision seems broken on the emulator in firelords, kept saying I hit walls when clearly I wasn't which is why I'm not screen capping it. This game also has no continue, and when you eat it, there's a high score screen you can snap a pic of and type a bit of a long name in, nice proof thing I suppose too.

Oh, I'm going to use an actual console. I would never be able to beat it using a emulator, I'm terrible at video games using a keyboard. =/

Yeah as am I, but I won't have the real cart for at least another couple weeks or longer whenever the hell he mails it out around real life so that would be too late or I'd go about it that way.

nestopia, not sure what else would be a good idea as I tried out fceux and for some lame reason it would randomly stutter a bit here and there while going which is murder for timing. Odd too as I run stuff more intense than that emulator on this mini notebook for snes and n64 and they're fine. That and really keyboard sucks for fast shooting and moving about.

do you have a recent version of fceux? try running it in full screen and see if your performance improves. also try vblank syncing in video options. you could also try nintendulator which has a good reputation for accuracy.

Yeah I tried using the latest released some few weeks ago. NEStopia has always been my one of choice, in earlier days when the author cared jabones as it was crazy accurate but it's out of date now.

couldn't quite finish the game. :\ it's too bad the mechanics are so f'ed up, this is a pretty decent game otherwise. I still don't understand how a being capable of traveling through space can't handle grazing a wall without taking a dive.

EDIT

Did really well on this game tonight.  Started on Reptyl's level and beat that.  Went to Mephisto's level after that and beat it as well.  Went to Firelord's level next, beat stage 1 with relative ease and got all the way to the end of stage 2 before I lost all my lives.  That pumpkin boss is impossible unless you're fully powered up.  I probably could've beat him when I first got to him when I was fully powered up, but some spiraling pumpkin flew up and hit me without warning.  I'll see if I can do better than this by Sunday night.

Oh yeah, and the bottom picture sums up my feelings about the difficulty of this game

Yeah Silver Surfer is a whore. Most the stages you're just done for if you lose the power ups once you got them. That's the problem with it more than anything else, because if you just had a life bar, or just lost a level of power boost it would be more in the catagory of fair than f'd up aggravatingly hard.

The good thing is that once you have all the power ups, it's so easy to not die, and keep them.

What are you guys thinking about racking points in boss fight? This is quite easy, so I don't know if it's a good idea to permit it, considering the game itself is hard to fight through?

How are you going to avoid it? If someone wanted to be calculating they could abuse it well and die before the last stage with a damn fine score and no one would be the wiser. Probably would have been best had you not explained that little loophole.

I think intentional point racking at the boss fights should be forbidden. It would be too easy for someone to get to a boss fight and rack up their score without actually trying to play through the game.

I'm going to avoid it by establishing a rule against it. If anyone is posting a score here that goes against the rule, then screw him, he's a deliberate cheater, and that's just lame for him. That's how this contest work, on honor. By pointing out this 'little loophole', I'm only asking the community to judge if it should be forbidden or allowed. Then, it is said, and honest player will follow, and understand the rule.

As a first time player of this game, it is just normal that I'm trying to get as much points as I can, and encounter that kind of cheap ways to rack points. I'm just trying to make the contest fair and competitive.

Exactly what I think about it, and we should definitely restrain ourselves to take any advantage of that technique.

I know you're trying to keep it fair, but I suppose I would have PMd the contest maker to warn them of it and see if they wanted to modify their rules if possible is all.
