I updated my score.  Also thanks for the labyrinth warning.  I don't think I'll attempt this game again, as it's so damn tedius and fustrating.  Jump kick, jump kick, jump kick, jump kick and they crouch, jump kick, jump kick but the Abobos hit you three times and lose half your life, jump kick, jump kick...

The best way to defeat any Abobo is with the elbow punch. Hit them like 5 times with one and they're dead. Only downside is that the elbow punch is one of the last moves you learn, so it's not easy to get early on in a low score contest.

Just a couple additions to make to the rules:

1. You can't do the weapon glitch (picking up weapon exactly when the last ennemy dies to keep the weapon afterward.)

2. When your score has a 9 in the hundreds, if you hit an ennemy with a head-butt, you lose 900 points instead of gaining 700 points. In other words, no intentional head butts to purprosely lower your score.

This is fairly confusing, but since I'm the only one to actually beat the game so far I'm winning right?

I really like this game except for two things, damned falling stalactites and the deadly wall, other than those cheap ass traps, sometimes all it takes is getting hit once and then you are juggled to death with no hope of escaping your fate, but everything else great fun. Have only ever beaten this game twice, back in 2003, and haven't played it since until yesterday, so even though making it through much of it several times (twice so far getting to Willy), still going to be somewhat tough for me to beat again. Gotta remember how best to deal with that machine gun wielding bastard. Gonna have to lower my score a bit more too.

Lowest score upon game over 55,900, stage 4, Willy

See next post for lower score...

Best way to defeat Willy is to get in close, kick him, and use the hair pull. Using the jump kick works, but he dodges it a lot and can end up shooting you if you miss hitting him.

Yeah, I thought it over after my second battle with him (had it recorded and watched it back) and realized that he works much like fighting an Abobo or Chintai (which I found out too late), get in close enough you can dodge their hits, which means dodging bullets too (I did dodge a few shots but still ended up getting hit, wasn't close enough). My problem is that I was being too cautious when I first encountered him from lack of experience, so he pumped my guts full of lead. Should be able to have this one beat next session I play.

That stupid wall on the last level got me twice so far. The second time I actually got past it alive, but it took almost all of my energy and I ended up getting killed by one of the Rowpers at the top of the cliff. I was on pace beat my current score by another couple thousand points on my most recent try, but I got shot by Willy and I only had one life bar left when I got to Jimmy and ended up dying.

I really, REALLY hate that moving wall in Mission 4! I get the feeling like getting thru this one without dying will be mostly luck for me

Played at least a dozen games of this all through the night, and still failed to beat it, of coarse it doesn't help me that I'm tackling two things, the other is trying to get a nice low score. Managed to get to Jimmy twice, he kicked his brother's ass the first encounter, next time I forgot about the timer, stupid @#$%@. For that one I had to take a pic of my video recording since I completely wasn't paying any attention to the time and totally wasn't ready for picture taking. Jimmy is a serious pain in the ass, very quick on response, didn't remember him being so difficult, but then I only did beat this twice ever outa far too many fails. Anyway, two scores here, take your pick, my low score against Jimmy, or lowest score on Willy. Still got plenty of time on this, I'll definitely keep at it.

Lowest score upon game over 56,950, Jimmy

Lowest score upon game over 53,540, Willy

New score in next post...

That wall has to be the most annoying and cheap part of the game. The bricks seem to pop out totally at random. It's really annoying for me to get that far with a really low score only to get cheaply killed. I need to get to work on trying to drop my score this weekend. I can't believe that I'm the only person that's even beaten the game yet (as of right now) so I have a feeling there are people sitting on some really good scores that haven't been posted yet.

Yup, as far as I can tell, the brick patterns are random.  Every time you play, the pattern changes, meaning that you just have to race across and hope you don't die.  I usually end up taking a beating and having to fight the enemies in that area with like 4 bars of health.  Fortunately, it's at least possible to come back from that.

Good job so far with beating the game.    I would guess that your feeling is correct that other people are lurking on this one.  I obviously have a plan that I'm working on and I'm sure many others are as well.

I think my plan is going well.  I figured out a great solution to beating Willy and Jimmy that isn't even that hard to do.  It's just a matter of getting there without dying so I can get the lives bonus.  I keep dying on the moving wall and also the cave with those enemies with the dynamite and the green Abobos (I keep getting blown up!).

Oh well.  Whatever happens, this contest has been loads of fun.

Played a couple more games this morning before going to sleep, still no go on beating it. But lower score anyway.

Lowest score upon game over 49,650, Willy

Update: new low score. Same score twice in a row! Now isn't that weird.

Lowest score upon game over 47,860 (twice, nice!), Willy

Got me a better score, see next post...

Oh, I get the point of this contest, now. It seems to be "go as far as you can get", and are ranked on how far you make it. If more than one person is at the same spot, the one with the lower score gets the lead. So I can just play this game normally, so it's not as tedious!

I officially hate Willy. My score hit 30,000 about halfway through fighting him and I got shot to death again. Had I beaten the game I'm guessing I would have beat my current score by about 10,000 points. On the plus side, I think I have this down to enough of an exact science at this point to hopefully have an outside shot at winning if I can pull it off.

Ah, yes, finally! Beat it! My third time ever, bought damn time. Took long enough. Beat it having 1 death, this by Jimmy Lee. I didn't make it to him with enough health, but at least I was able to come back and get my revenge, elbowed that jerk in face. Can I beat it again, yep, but how soon I dunno, could be next game, could be several games or more later, but hopefully not years later. And I know I can get a better score, whether I can pull it off the next time though will be a challenge, but I did leave a lot of room for improvement.

Oh, forgot, need to subtract 5,000 points since I beat it with 1 death.

Lowest score upon beating game with 1 death 45,080 - 5,000 = 40,080

I was not far from your score Doug. This morning I made it all the way to Willy with just a little over 30 thousand, both my lives, and totally blew it, got crushed, not just by him, but get this, my last life was lost against the Lindas, played a nice perfect game to lose against them!? I think I had played too much, because the next few games after that I did terrible, worst and worst, unfortunately there's a thing called sleep which I had to get. Sure hope I can repeat that game but actually beat it before Sunday ends. I am so totally enjoying this week's contest, had been eagerly awaiting this one.
