What do you guys think about this? I don't know much about Camerica prototype stuff. I do love Dizzy though so I was intrigued if that's what it is?

That's a retail game without a label. That's no prototype.

^ That's what I thought as well, which is why I didn't bid. It just looked far away from being an actual prototype.

Uhh, did you look at the updated pictures? It's almost certainly a proto.

1) There's a "D" sticker on the ROM presumably covering a UV erasure window
2) There are many PCB jumpers and reworks
3) The PCB differs from the known PCB
4) There is a hole for the switches but no switches

It's almost certainly a proto.

would have been nice if the guy took a couple screenshots of the game. This stuff is always fascinating to watch.

I saw the pictures, and I still don't feel as though it's a prototype.  It's not terribly uncommon for unlicensed games to have EPROMs in them, and there are instances of Camerica (retail) games having jumpers.  There are also variants that included/don't include the back switch, so that's not a certainty either.

Camerica games are some of the most common games to be mistaken for prototypes, and I feel like this copy is no different.

As do the retail boards. It's very likely that some of the "prototypes" with mask ROMs were as BeaglePuss described: mistaken or fake protos. It's not unheard of for some protos to use mask ROMs but even then there would usually be EPROM protos used earlier in the development process.

This particular game does use mask ROMs on the retail version.
Chances are good that this is a proto.

I'm just going off past experiences. In my opinion, this game presents more like a retail cart and less like a prototype.

That was my impression looking at it. It's on that line of early retail/late preproduction, which can be a gray area for the unlicensed shops. Do you have any Camerica protos to compare?

I found some references to early retail Micro Machines(?) carts not having switches. I couldn't find anything in bootgod's db with that board id, nor any entries with an eprom. I'm curious how the data compares to a retail dump.

Like Lincoln said, some Camerica games didn't have switches, I also remember Micro Machines being one in that category.

This one doesn't seem very prototype-ish to me, but who knows!
