I was wondering if we were going to do protos or not. There are literally hundreds of them out there. Believe me, I know after trying put together this list that I have going. Are we just adding non released games to the database? If that's the case, I have a list of unreleased games you might want to add on or I can
Whatever works best.

Visited trade-n-games today and he said he would be happy to do the scan of the SE manual
I actually got to hold it in my hands and flip through it. It felt great to say the least! lol

I thought this maybe could count as a box variation. Swedish rental box, it's been up for discussion several times at nesworld.. There is also a Baby Boomer rental box that looks like this, unfortunately I don't know who owns it, and I don't have any picture of it.

Box Back
Box Front
Box Side

Sorry I couldn't get any better pics, I don't have any scanner so I had to use my camera. It's the blue cart with the regular blue back-label. I don't know if there ever were a manual for this rental..

That's VERY interesting! I remember a long time ago about this being discussed. I would say it is a box variation but let's wait and see what Dain says

LOL, I wanted to wait and see what YOU guys thought!

I think this might be considered a box variation, but it almost appears to be a customized job for a rental store or something. In other words, would this particular box be something a collector could actually obtain with a reasonable amount of searching? If not, I'm leaning toward putting it under "Additional Images" with a note about it. If you guys think it's something that could be obtained by collectors (read: there's more than 1 out there), then it would be a variation.

Thoughts?

Well, the company behind it served several rental stores, and they're still alive and kicking, though they specialize in something else nowadays.. I've mailed them a couple of times, but without results.. I definately think there's more of these out there. In Sweden atleast.. A guy recently sold a cart-only Baby Boomer here at the swedish auction site, claiming it was ex-rental. But since it was cart-only there was really no way to tell if it was from the same company that distributed the CotD. Use the pictures if you want to, and maybe I could get it scanned in the future. I am going away for the weekend now and probably won't be near a computer until late sunday.

I'll check my stuff for Canadian variants and shit for ya. Gives me an excuse to hook my scanner up again. Any ideas how I could get a scan of the big box Gyromite, or would standard pics suffice?

But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

To my knowledge, no other company produced Canadian games. The "CAN" with no code are identical to codeless Nintendo-published games in the US. I'm also not entirely sure if every Nintendo-published title was released with a CAN variant, although it's fairly likely. However, I know of a few that weren't...primarily the reissues of the Zelda games and Metroid, among others. Guess we didn't warrant greatest hits games back in the day

That's consistent with my knowledge of it as well.

The french king neptune's box scans I lent to the color dreams - a dedication site, you can find them there.

Hopefully Dain and NGD get this message on here. If you check the site by new posts I am sure you will. I have come across two rather simpler variations that are missing from the NTSC list. Maybe you have these two elsewhere and if you do I am sorry I missed them. I will send you pics of the boxes in a minute.

1) PUNCH-OUT!! has two different boxes. One is the regular Punch-Out!! without Mike Tyson. But they also made a 2nd box under the big red banner Classic Series with a slightly zoomed in picture and a blue diamond in the bottom corner that says The Original inside the diamond. The backs are also differnet with different game pics. I will send pics of them side by side.

2) The Tengen Pac-Man also came in a 10th anniversary "logo" on back box. Compeltely different picture on the front. This version is unlciensed and I would say that is the only version there is like this. I will again put them side by side in the pictures.

Hopefully you can use this information here if you don't already have it on here somewhere.

~Erik~

It's the top left and the 2nd top left that I am referring too. I don't have enough room apparently to list other pics of the back differences. But if you want I could email them to you.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the info -- the Pac-Man 10th anniversary edition is already on the Pac-Man page:

http://www.nintendoage.com/ind...=NES.Game&Game_ID=1159 (see the Variations section)

The punch-out variation is also scanned, but just hasn't been added yet. I've been slowly getting all the known variations entered, as it's a laborious process to say the least. So far we've got most unlicensed variations entered, the 3 vs. 5 screw varitions, some white vs black seal variations (in progress), and a few other misc variations. But, there are still literally hundreds more to add. I'm hoping to get more of them done in the coming weeks so I can move on to other things I've been meaning to get to.

Ok my bad... chalk that up to learning your site. I thought you listed all variations on the outer pages and didn't see them. But you actually put the variations inside the Pac-Man or (any other game) once you have opened it for more information. Thanks for the heads up!

hey erik, congrats on winning some of those dkazz auctions. All you need now is a snipe program! Are you trying to get every game complete? (guessing by your purchases).

cheers,

Yes my goal is all games CIB. Mainly focusing on NTSC stuff but I buy other stuff I see as it comes along to spice the collection up. Plus I am down to needing only less than 20 items (mostly boxes) to have complete CIB collection. Some of the boxes are really tough to come by. LIKE CHUBBY CHERUB... DAMN!!!!

Hey Erik,

No worries about the variations -- I know it may be kind of confusing, simply because some of them are on the search results, and some aren't (ie, the -1 variations are there). I'm *still* (going on 4 months now) pondering whether or not to have a single listing for a game, then putting all variations inside the game page. The problem with this idea is that some variations (IMO) warrant their own separate listing, such as the Metroid and Zelda games, or any that had the "Classic Series", etc. For now, I think I'm going to keep it as-is and eventually make up my mind!

Real quick this might be nit-picking but on the Trolls On Treasure Island... all of your pics are of the box that came with the Troll on the front. Even the one without the troll on the front has the holes in the box where the troll was. You might want to make a note that this also came without the troll on the front in case people are confused either way...

Congrats on being so close! Now I see why you weren't scared to put in good bids on some of those dkazz completes. By the way, did you win the chubby or not? I seem to recall you bidding on it but not sure if you won or not.. just curious.

Ouch... not cool man! $269+ and alas no box... but thanks once again for the reminder...

If anyone has one for sale please let me know... obviously I am serious about acquiring it. I already contacted the guy who outbid me to see if he was one of those people who bids too much and later regrets it offering to buy it from him.

Actually thanks to this site I have taken one off my list. I swear to all that I saw on eBay last year someone selling a CIB Corvette ZR-1 Challenge and claiming it was NTSC US. It was at like $500+ as I remember it got ended early or something. Anyways I had always had that on my list and I even bought a ZR-1 cart on eBay for like $60 that the seller said was NTSC and it turned out to be Europe PAL version when I got it home. Pretty upset but I didn't leave negative feedback as I have only 3 negatives on eBay all from idiots I bought NES games from that didn't come condition as stated in auction. I left neutral feedback and all three bombed me with negatives. So a word to the wise just let it go if you care about your feedback...

Sorry... I didn't mean it like that. Sucks that you lost the auction. I do actually have a spare sealed chubby cherub:

but its really not for sale as I value it very high myself and double or no its one of my favorite games in my collection. However, it might be available for trade if you have something I need. So respond to your pm already
