Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  With only a couple weeks left in the 2015 contests, leaderboard points are going to become very valuable now as participants look to place in Tiers 1, 2, or 3 for the upcoming tournament.  This week’s game is going to be an 80s game show classic, Fun House.  Please pay close attention to the rules this week because there will be a participation score.  Here are the rules:

  • Play until Game Over
  • When you are given the option to Continue or End, select Continue
  • Before the round starts, take your picture (your score will be in the High Score spot)
  • If you get to the last level (12-6), you MUST get a Game Over on purpose in order to see your final score, you can't beat the last level, but you can spoil your remaining lives in order to make more points.
  • Participation: 10,000
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Action/Platformer

The contest ends Sunday, 12/13/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

The controls in this game definitely take some getting used to. It's like Smash TV with tomatoes.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at the Let's Play Gaming Expo last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Oh, my WTB thread is very popular. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, Richard craniums - they all adore it. They think it's a righteous thread.
I'd also like to add that I've got my father's gun and a *scorching* price guide for aftermarket Nintendo games.
Between Dragon Warriors and nothing... I'll take Dragon Warriors - for any of my FT/FS/FO items.

My brain keeps trying to convince me that it's Marc Summers in the picture. Wikipedia assures me that it's not. I will pretend.

The game doesn't show your final score during the ending, so if anyone makes it to 12-6 they would need to lose on purpose without beating the game in order to see their score. Apparently the credits just loop after the game ends, so starting a new game to get your score wouldn't be possible.

Supposedly you can't see your score after clearing the last level due it not showing up during the ending credits, so if anyone made it to 12-6 they would need to lose on purpose without beating the game in order to get their score.

Okay, so then anybody getting to the last level (12-6) must get a game over on purpose.

I'd say anybody getting to level 12-6 can spoil their lives in order to get more points, as long as they don't beat the level.

The controls seem a bit rough in this game. I've had several attempts where I knew the way through the level and simply couldn't complete it in time because I'm bouncing all over the place. I guess that's what happens when you go roller skating on ice and conveyor belts.

Agreed 100%. I haven't cleared floor 3 yet (for shame!), but I've seen all of the levels multiple times now and know them well. Suffice it to say that I've had a few screaming matches with my TV. It seems like once I start losing control (e.g. bumping into enemies), I start getting a bit frantic and even sloppier. Add that some of the enemies suck time from you, and it's a perfect storm for frustration.

I'm glad it's not just me. I got hung up between two of those donut like bumpers yesterday and literally just got bounced back and forth like a pinball until the time ran out and there didn't seem to be anything I could do to get free. I just had to quit for the day since it seems like the more frustrated that I get, the worse I end up playing.

Don't get me wrong, I really do enjoy this game -- it feels pretty unique... however, I only let myself go one or two rounds before giving it a rest for the day.

That's basically what I was trying to say. I think I rented it as a kid and it was fun for a weekend, but it would take some serious dedication to actually beat it.

As far as kids game shows were concerned, Fun House was alright... I put Double Dare and Finders Keepers ahead of it though. Johnny Arcade/Video Power was awesome too, all the prizes were video games!

It's tough to beat double dare "physical challenge!".

one of my personal favorites was "wild and crazy kids".

Updated score. Fuck the 'Suborbitals' level. I had 3 lives remaining when I got there, and it drained them all. So frustrating....

The "Pachinko" level on 5-1 is even worse. Just imagine "Suborbitals" with patches of ice and bumpers all over the place. Floor 7 is just brutal in general. I've spent the last three days trying to clear it. I made it to 7-6 this last time, but I missed a target towards the end which pretty much guarantees that you'll run out of time.

Updated score -- more than doubled my last one, and that's all for me on Fun House this week.
