Can ROM be "forgotten" or erased?

Heres a technical question I have never received a definitive answer to. After so many years, is it possible for ROM to be "forgotten" or erased, you know, like in a similar fashion to an EPROM? Or is it pretty much permanently there? In 30 years, will we be left with a bunch of unusable carts? That is presuming our systems live that long and we dont have compatability problems with our floating screens (you know, like the time Cartman couldnt play his Wii after being frozen for 500 years!)

ack that would suck . Funny someone told me the same thing about my comics some old spidermans I have . "better sell those before they turn to dust'
