FWIW, I believe the prototype that sold to famicomcafe was resold, or at least another one was sold on Yahoo Japan at a later date.

Whatever the case, I guess we know for sure now that the cat in the box is a Gremlin, and that the head with legs is almost certainly intended to be one of the iconic forms of the alien from The Thing (the dialogue says "Henshin! Bu-t-ta-i-E-k-ku-su (X)," and Buttai X is the Japanese name of the 'Thing' ).

Anyone know what the javelin guy is in this (the face is clearly different), or that tall robot thing?

The stone guy is likely a Daimajin reference... the robotic thing, no idea. Perhaps one of the myriad "Alien" ripoffs that were spawned throughout the 80s?

Well, after looking up what Daimajin is lol, I can say that you are probably exactly right!

It also hit me too... since "The Thing" is in the game, that dead creature in stage 1 is probably also the Thing. Just the "dead" Thing they find earlier in the film, ha ha.

Will the ROM be released soon? I heard it would be sometime this summer.

As it just so happens, the ROM's been released today! I'm still up for a repro though if that's still happening though.

I'm very interested in a repro too if there will be a 72 pin translated version of the game (this is my first post on these boards by the way - hello!). I'm a big fan of the US version so this is like a dream come true. I've been dying to see what the original content was all about.

I won't touch the ROM until someone clarifies what's going on though. Was it really released by Matt and Mark? It doesn't feel right that the file has been leaked before they've had a chance to make their money. They did something nice for the community when they bought the prototype. I would like to see them rewarded for it.

Edit: Never mind, I just saw the other thread!

I'm wondering the same thing! I'd definitely be interested if this got a reproduced release.

Rest assured, it was indeed released by the guys doing the reproduction. Download and play on without guilt.

I still hope a translation gets done soon-ish. In the meantime, I'll play the crap out of it, with or without Kanjis.

Japanese protos seem to be turning up a lot lately, hopefully the trend continues, we get a lot of NES protos every now and then, but I almost never see famicom nes.
