Hello all, I'm new to the forums and was wondering if there was anyone selling a reasonably priced copy of Earthbound for the SNES. I'm not a collector, I'm simply a guy who wants to play Earthbound.
If anyone has a used, out of box copy I'd like to know how much you'd be willing to sell it for.

Welcome to the site! I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a copy, however the price has spiked dramatically in recent months.

Also, I'd edit your title to "WTB SNES Earthbound!! Please help".

...people want to play it. Virtual console doesn't have it. It's not rare, just highly sought after. I'm fine with the increase on this particular game, but I say that as someone that has a minty copy =)

Would be just as cheap to buy a powerpak and play it on there. Of course you could always just DL an emulator/rom if your sole reason is to play it.

Yeah I didn't want to do an emulator, but with these crazy prices I might have to. I kind of wanted to play it on my snes, but I'll keep looking before I give up. Thanks to all your help and if anyone has s cheap copy let me know!

I'm pretty sure there's some programming within Earthbound that doesn't allow you to get past a certain point. Some type of anti-piracy measure. When playing on emulators.

This is incorrect. The game has anti-piracy measures that are not triggered during emulation. On a Powerpak or similar, I don't know how it would work. The game checks for certain values of (hardware) memory which should be included in the ROM image. The idea is that if you blindly put the ROM on a board, these checks would fail, triggering the anti-piracy measures.

Actually alot of the roms do have antipiracy when played through an emulator. I dont like this game myself but I know of a few people who got far in the game on a PC emulator only to have it freeze at the last boss cause of anti-piracy built into the game.

i second the purchase of an SNES powerpak, it's 40 bucks cheaper right now, and plays most of the library. and star ocean works too! buy earthbound sometime after tax season is my suggestion.

nah you can play thru the whole game on an emulator.  I made a thread about this way back when. Read the whole Earthbound section on that article and watch the vid.  Hillarious. A+ Nintendo!

Earthbound has been hacked to get the anti-piracy removed from it. I'd be shocked if you found a rom that still had it in there.

On PowerPAK or similar, I do not know how it would work.Check the memory of the game should be included in the ROM image.

Could you please follow that PM to me too? I really wish to get my hands on a copy.
I've looked everywhere to get one outside of ebay without any luck so far.

Anniemay, I sent you back a PM a few days back but I'll send again.
As far as right now goes, I found a hoot emulator of Earthbound, but I'm still looking for a legit copy. A few sources say they have it for $85-$90 but I'm still looking for others. Thanks for all your help everyone!

Hopefully you immediately jumped on those, unless they were pirates.

Early last year I got one for 80 on ebay. Turned out to be a pirate though and had to send it back to get my money back.

Ouch, the guys were sold out at the time but they said they're trade ins and they're legit. So I'll be checking those out, $80 isn't bad.
People pirate snes games? I had no idea
