The funny victory announcement from Pro Wrestling was mentioned in NP this ish, and it got me thinking that I didn't remember it like that from when I was younger. The version I play on my pp does have the famous transration, but I checked the cart I have and it's corrected to WINNER IS YOU Anyone know when they changed it? Or maybe Pro Wrestling on my PowerPak is the Famicom version?

I had to go back and play that horrible game just because of this thread. It says "Winner is Ricky Fighters" or "Winner is Strong Bads". Still terrible English, but you were right.

Whoa, let me be clear. I was saying tag team wrestling was horrible, and I stand by that. Pro Wrestling is a solid title, one of the better black box games i think.

I don't know when they changed it, but it was early on. Most 5 screw pro wrestling's have "A Winner is You" but some do not. The trick to telling the difference when your out in the wild is to look for an embossed "A" stamped into the back label of the cartridge. If you see the A, it's a Rev-A ROM and will be just "Winner is You" whereas if you do NOT see an A on the back, it's the original "A Winner is You" release. And those original ones are actually a little tougher to find than you'd think.

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

I can tell you the original non-rev A was a bear to find! I had talked to people who were convinced it didn't even exist, but I didn't lose hope and eventually found it, from one of our very own NA members

I believe my copy is a Canadian 5 screw, though I am not sure of the REV-A since I don't have it with me here, but I'll check it out.
I'd imagine this would mean then that all 3 screw versions have just WINNER IS YOU ?

I could never figure this game out. You are supposed to fight Great Puma at the end, right? Well, every time I've played this, I'd be undefeated, and I'd never make to him. I'd beat the same series of guys 5 times in a row, and nada. What am I doing wrong?

^ Once you're the champ you need to win 10 matches in a row - it doesn't matter which opponent you start or end with, but you MUST defend your title successfully for 10 consecutive matches. If you lose even once after 9 straight wins, you have to start all over again.

Well, Dr., I really am at a loss, then. I went through every guy 5 times in a row, undefeated, and still never got to him. I tried this again years later, thinking I was just a stupid kid at the time, and it turned out exactly the same. I just don't get it.

Dude I love this game... if not the best black box game gotta be right there. I am always King Slender cause his back breaker rocks... Just use a NES Max or something with turbo and you always win... I love jumping off the ropes like 6-7 times in a row and punishing opponents before pinning them... LOL Morbid I know. But yes, 10 wins in a row as champ and you get Puma everytime, never had it fail.

I've always preferred Fighter Hayabusa. His "out of nowhere" brain kick is one of the best attacks in the game

ANyone ever beat this game without turbo? This was one of the first two games I got as a kid, the first Christmas season the year the NES was released. The other game I got was Metroid, and then I seem to remember Mike Tyson's Punch-Out coming out very shortly after that, as I was at the store the day it came out. Also grabbed Tiger Heli and 1942 because they were $10 cheaper than the rest of the NES games.

I can get Puma counted out of the ring easily enough on a standard controller, but I've got to admit: I cannot and will not ever get a pin against that bastard without my NES Advantage
