Hello and welcome to the seventh round of the first Sega Master System Weekly Contest!  This week's game is Global Defense.  Destroy enemy missiles, satellites, fighters, and bases in this arcade classic!  Destroy all the enemies in the Offensive Half of a stage to score a perfect bonus and skip the Defensive Half.  Can you get a perfect score?

I couldn't get a perfect clear, but I finally reached stage 4.

Not only did I survive the offensive wave, I also got through the defensive wave and the next offensive wave. The second defensive wave?  Not so much.

Note that the damage to your planet or whatever carries over from the offensive portion to the defensive portion. If you can't kill enough enemies in the first part then you're basically screwed with regard to the second.

I can consistently clear the first stage but I haven't been able to beat stage two. This is a really tough game.
 

Thanks for the tips Michael! I have not had much luck in my other attempts. At this point, I'll be happy with clearing the offensive portion.

Submitted a score instead of attending the monthly HOA meeting and I've gotta say this game is better than sitting in a room full of old people that smell like mothballs and complain about how "the foreigners" are ruining everything !

I went into stage 3 with 17k. I should've had over 20k but I choked.

Alright, made some progress now to just get a perfect on stage one. 😜

This game is seriously retarded.  Done with this crap.

This game is still pretty retarded, but I finally figured out how to hit enemies more effectively.  Doubt I'll be able to top this.

I've tried for hours to get even one perfect stage and that shit ain't happening. Ever. Youtube playthroughs make it look so easy.

Near the end of the first level they throw like an entire wall of those spinning blue and pink diamond things at you, along with a bunch of other stuff, so that it's almost impossible to shoot them all. I did get lucky once and killed everything except one missile. I couldn't get that close again.




 

I don't think it's that bad, just frustratingly difficult, at least for me. There's a steep learning curve due to the weird controls.

I figured out how to hit enemies more effectively, but the game is still dumb.  They should have made it where you just moved your ship around and fired like a traditional shooter instead of this one button moves the ship and another button moves the cursor to fire nonsense.
