Use the sound from the PAL version with fixed note lengths and frequency, and keep the Japanese game engine I'd presume...hmm....Anyone got one of these to confirm?

Game plays 100% same as the jp version.  Sounds are a bit watered down from the jp version, but it  sounds just as awesome. You can't really tell unless you are comparing them side by side.

OK let me be a little clearer. Did the USA-NTSC prototype version of this game use the same board type as Batman Return of the Joker would have or some other one. (I know the repro release is on Bunny's boards)

do you mean 'did the versions that sunsoft built for testing use a rotj donor or something else?' yes, im sure they gutted a rotj to test with. dream would know for sure i'd think, beyond that its hard to say who could know that for sure. you would have to have sunsoft team development knowledge to know something like that.

OMG............

Gimmick Jap uses Sunsoft-5B with Sunsoft-5B
Gimmick Euro uses NES-JL-ROM with FME-7
Gimmick USA uses NES-??-ROM with ???-? or Sunsoft-?? (what was Bunny's clone of) Please fill in the question marks where applicable if you don't know please don't answer.

I hope now I have made it clear, I guess I need to write this shit down and then draft up several questions before actually posting because I can't seem to get my questions right or my point across properly.

Maybe its just me. I try not be patronising but when I have to type it out like this ^^^^ I feel I am being that way.

I hope everyone realizes that the NTSC USA rom was floating arround on the net long before the repro. I have about 4 versions of Gimmick saved on my pc.

Maybe so,
I will add that I already own a PAL Mr Gimmick and I'm in the process of ordering a Retrozone Mr Gimmick. I just wanted to see what the ROM was and what info was in the header so I could compare it to the 6 other ones I have on my computer.

I finally found on that comes up as an NTSC NES cart however the title screen still has Japanese writing instead of Mr. Gimmick. Is this the ROM you have been talking about.

Now that this has been released, how does it compare to the Famicom version? How does the sound differ, etc.?

You know what I mean and so does everyone else here.

The ROM is NTSC-NES the Japanese one is NTSC-Famicom. We are talking about NES games 72 pin not Famicom 64 pin. Got it.

The rom is different because its the unreleased USA rom and I believe that you get 5 lives instead of 3

Oh really, Ill have to check this out.

I find it strange that this thread is full of answers by people that don't have the games yet and the people that do have the ROM's cart's or prototypes haven't really said much at all.

I don't think that is right. The USA proto version that retrozone has starts you off with 3 lives. Same with the JP version. PAL version starts you with 7.

I just bought this the other day from Retrozone, but my cart has glitches on the star and on Mr gimmick. Also glitches appear on the display below. Is this the same for everyone else? I didn't realize when I bought it it was so glitchy

Nope, not at all. You should e-mail retrozone about this issue.

I hope this is the best thread to use but I was hoping to pick this up from RetroUSB once it came off their temporarily unavailable status in January. But now it's been moved into their discontinued pile! Is there anywhere else I can get a Mr. Gimmick retro cart?

Use this and commission a repro from any one of your friendly neighborhood repro guys.

We are soldiers without borders, our purpose defined by the Era we live in; we will sometimes have to sell ourselves and services. If the times demand it, we'll be revolutionaries, criminals, terrorists.
And yes, we may all be headed straight to Hell, but what better place for us than this? It is our only home.
Our Heaven, and our Hell.
This, is Outer Heaven.
