Hello,
I was looking on ebay and Amazon for this game and most people are selling it for 160 or higher. I would like to get the game, but really can't see why the game is worth that much. Thank you

With all the other price spikes I'm surprised this hasn't shot up to $200+

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

Yeah I would say it's def worth that and prob due for a spike when GBA/GBC/GB catches up to SNES and NES prices.

Yeah prices are crazy on it because of the DSiware Shantae title. Would like to own it, can be cart only, but not paying more than $100. Maybe I'll get lucky someday

The cool part about this game that it was made by an independant developer and capcom loved it so much they published it. Pretty cool little game that I am glad to have got the chance to play.

Glad I got my box and manual for $50 last year.. I need the cart though.. I'm confident I will find it at a yard sale this summer which is why I'm holding out.

Haha, this is pretty hilarious. I haven't checked on the game for a while, but wow that's a stupid price. I mean, there have been 4 copies sold this month alone. I'd love if someone with the 3 month history could count up the number of cart sales.

I'd say the game's riding a high note of popularity, but will probably settle down sooner than later. In a year or so, I'd be fairly surprised if the game was still still breaking $100 cart-only.

Yea, not THAT rare. I can think of a few under cover more rare games for GBC. I see this title often enough with standard keyword searches

Shantae over a year ago I sold as a cart only for around $120. The game has always been disgustingly overpriced because of the rarity of the game. Not many were pressed as it came out over a year after the GBA hit the market and Capcom did a smaller run of them.

If you want the game wait. In a matter of a week or two(or so) from the sounds of stuff I've seen online the ESRB has rated the game for the 3DS eShop and being a GBC game it will cost around $5 more or less. Don't get raped by the price of a real one unless you're a collector and just have to have it. Even if you want a real copy, the digital one will help drop the price. FF7 was big bucks too and then it hit the PSN as a $10 download and the value on it cratered hard. I'm not saying Shantae will go from $150~ down to $30 but perhaps it will come back down to $100 or under.

Edit: By the way, check the completed next time on ebay.  That's greed a little at play, seems to bottom out around $100 being sold and higher end of $130 shipped for just the game.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I would rather buy a cart then buy digital, but if it is cheaper to buy on the eshop then I'll do it. Also Tanooki,on Amazon it was 159.99 so just moved it up to 160 sorry bout that and I know they have copies that go higher. Should have said that, sorry. On ebay I know the lowest amount I have seen is 150 on up. In terms of shiping the ones I have seen on ebay normaly have free shiping.

Rent a time machine; go back to 2001; enter Toys-R-Us and pick up a dozen copies of Shantea. Sell all but one here in 2012, and use the money from those sealed sales to pay off the time machine rentals. If you don't know where to rent a time machine, talk to Doc Brown; he can set you up with a flux capacitor to install on your DeLorean.

I believe that Shantea is a likely candidate for 3DS virtual console release. I played Shantea's Revenge and it is a lot of fun. Sadly, when the GBA came out and I heard they were going to discontinue GBC, I went to Toys-R-Us and bought a crap-ton of games. I vaguely remember seeing Shantea sitting on the shelf, but I didn't know what it was, so I got Ratz instead. Idiot me...

I think we might see a similar trend with Radiant Historia on the DS. From what I've heard it had a similar production run. I'd like to get my hands on a sealed Shantae but I'm not paying $500 for one. At least not right now

The same is sort of true for the Pokemon games, but on a different magnitude. There's tons of them out there, lots sealed too, but the price is crazy because people actively want them to play.

Stardust check my post, it recently got Serb rated in the US for soon eShop release. It will harm the price of the real game just as it has done to others in the past that was overly stuffed up like FF7.

Yeah that's the screwy thing with it. THe game actually is quality unlike most of the over $100 type rares or thought to be rares based on hype. The game really is a fascinating mix of a few classic games in style. It's kind of like a little bit of Little Samson (as you can change forms), the dungeon and puzzle of the dungeon layouts of Zelda 2 with the minor RPG elements, and then almost a bit of a Tomb Raider (2D GBC) and other of the style type general explorer all rolled into one.

Wow, lucky you. I found one last year for $5 at the flea but try as I may I never could connect with it so I ended up ebaying the thing. I probably should have given it more time but the payout was too tempting.

i'm weird like that. even if it's worth a bunch, i can't part with something. like my action 52. it's terrible, and it came in a giant box of games for dirt cheap... but i can't sell it.

it's crazy what shantae is worth, though. it's not that rare is it?

It is the rarest GBC game...  Cart only is ~$80  I thought.  Maybe $160 for super minty CIB.  Maybe it's just going up in general as it's hard to find

I kinda doubt this game will drop too much in price due to the fact it's a great game, it's hard to find and it's always been pretty damn expensive. I really can't remember the last time someone was willing to let it go for under $100.

It's Gameboy Color though. How many threads are in the WTB forum for "WTB GBC Sealed / Complete games!".  It's been re-released as a downloadble game too, so gamers can get their fix there.  Right now all of the value is coming from hoarders / speculators and a few collectors.

GBC is highly volatile in general, Metal Gear Solid GBC CIB can go for $100-$120 as a BIN and yet auction off in the $50-$60 range sometimes.  Shantae just gets all the hype and all of the attention so people keep trying to boost the price.  It won't last forever though, mark my words.

Is Shantae really the rarest or just the most expensive?
